I need to finally go see The Favourite and Beale Street next week. Regina was also absolutely amazing on American Crime.

Regina was great on Southland and kept getting overlooked year after year. Now she wins for almost everything she does. It’s a nice reversal.

Up in early numbers. Tracking to be second-lowest ever, but after last year’s fiasco, it’s a positive development for the Academy and ABC.

Regina deserves so much kudos for staying in the game for so long, and for transitioning from a child actress to a respected adult actress. It's hard to do in Hollywood when you're black and female, but she's really had longevity in this game.

Green Book is the typical Best Picture of recent years - it makes Oscar voters feel like they're tackling a cause and also is a finger in the eye to more outspoken liberal voices.

Well said.

I had no dogs in these fights -- I've been watching mostly old movies since "Titanic" -- so I could take-or-leave most of the winners.  But I am very happy to hear about Regina King's win.  Just imagine the kind of celebration that Lester and Mary are gonna throw for their Brenda in the building. ;)

I think it may be because King has focused on the work and not the fame.  Some actors have gotten caught up in courting publicity, the press and magazine covers and get lost and perhaps get discouraged when the spotlight shifts elsewhere.  Looking back on King's body of work, I can honestly say that she's never been one of those people, she's always just focused on the work.

ABC's broadcast of the awards averaged 29.6 million viewers, a 11.5 percent gain over a year ago. The host-less show also scored a 7.7 rating among adults 18-49, a 13 percent gain vs. last year. The broadcast was the most-watched entertainment telecast on TV since the 2017 Oscars and the highest-rated non-sports program since the post-Super Bowl This Is Us in 2018.

The 2018 awards hit an all-time low of 26.54 million viewers and a 6.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
