Daytime soaps arent supposed to give instant pay off. If you want that watch Primetime.

Y&R is moving the way it did when Bell & Alden were in charge and im liking it

I totally agree with you John.

I am an old timer who grew up on P&G and CBS soaps.

Irna Phillips, the Soderbergs and Henry Slesar.

What did Agnes Nixon say "Make em laugh, make em cry and make em wait? (Paraphrased)

They did not let stunts and outrageous plots drive their stories.

Y&R has had  Latham, Maria Bell, Phelps, Rauch and Griifith steer this show in the wrong direction.

Hacks like Latham ,Hamner, Sheffer, Pratt, Altman, Griffith and especially the show killer Piss~Ant  herself do damage to this show.

It is going to take more than 2 or 3 months to fix this show.

I would give her 18 to 24 months. Then,if the quality and less importantly ratings haven't improved  - then think about a change!

Bob Guza: no, just no. His style of soap writing is like Pratt's: plot at the expense of character. He wouldn't "get" Y&R anymore than Pratt or JFP did. Lorraine Broderick has a mixed rep as a head writer. Her work at AMC at various points was her high point. She seems more suited to breakdown writing.

I think it is still moving too fast...but I honestly dont think it can move as slow as it once did during the bell era.  People are impatient and want instant gratification.  If they arent getting it, they move onto something else.

Ive often thought that 5 days a week is too much.  I think an hour episode once or twice a week 52 weeks a year would work...just so long as the budget isnt slashed...so that the extra money from less episodes could be applied to sets, writing and paying actors a higher guarantee.

See, today was a nice episode and (so far this week at least) they are shuffling the stories day to day.  We'll see what happens.

I've noticed more use of music cues lately.

I'm glad that Jill didn't auto-forgive Colin. Can he leave now?  And I like Hilary going out with Jordan.  MM looked absolutely stunning today

Ask the half a million viewers who've tuned out since a year ago.

I wouldn't call her pathetic but she's not had a great vision in the first three months and her choices so far are extremely lame.

To be fair, the bulk of the audience erosion happened under Pratt's watch. And we know how difficult it is get viewers back even under the best of circumstances.

I've been critical of Sally, but I'm not a proponent of getting rid of her just yet, especially considering the alternatives (Higley). I just realize how trigger-happy execs can be when there are multiple weeks of ratings declines.

No thats false Pratt brought ratings to sky high level. Almost 5.6 million. Pratt new show Star on FOX was renewed for another season. Its now been three months and it stinks to high heaven

You know what stinks to high heaven? Pratt's new show STAR. It's not fit to eat EMPIRE's dust. I bailed after 5 episodes because it sucks. That's Pratt.

The biggest reason you dump on Sally is because you love GH and almost everyone hear thinks it's a disaster. Your revenge is to dump on YR with the same comments over and over about Pratt and JFP.

It's like you're the worst plot ever on a cancelled soap opera.

I don't care how many time the revolving doors of writers happens. Half of the problem is the writing but the other half are people who are portraying the characters. Either we don't like the characters or the people who plays the characters.

I dont think Kay Alden wants to be head writer and i am sorry if she us working with Sally she gets the blame. JFP is sitting somewhere having a martini and laughing. Her ratings were stellar. Jill passed on Sally in 2014 we know see why.

    • Creatively, he probably should have stayed with The Doctors, where he stood out as an antihero lead. Not sure what happened with GH. He didn't have the same impact. Was it bad writing, not clicking with co-stars? Didn't they gave him a boat load of money to join GH in 1976? Was Mark Dante just a toned-down version of Nick Bellini? Were they basically the same character?
    • All I can think of is if a lot of big names were leaving around that time she wanted him back as a stopgap, although I have never seen any real evidence that he was popular with GH viewers.
    • I loved watching Shanice hand Leslie her ass and finally shutting her up. It was so good. I also love Martin & Smitty's family.  Anita has to have some sort of plan giving Leslie the tickets to mail for Winterfest. She has to be setting her up for a fall. It's pretty obvious to me Vernon is not cheating with Sharon. I think Sharon is helping him with his terrible singing voice for Winterfest. I still believe Bill & Dani are endgame but I love Dani & Andre too. I am definitely enjoying this story. And making Hayley a black widow is a nice twist.
    • Sorry for the spam. Wasn't sure where to put this, it's from Tony Geary's husband's IG. Tony watching Genie and Maurice on Mo's show.
    • This show is really trundling along BTW. When is someone going to show up to slit Beastmaster's throat or crack the whip on metrosexual Sidwell? (BTW, openly presenting this cheery bon vivant as casually bisexual would at least be something vaguely diverting.) At least kill Brennan by year's end. I'm bored.
    • She told Vanessa to "DOUBLE her offer" on the Jarvis house.  The Jarvis family accepted the doubled price.  Assuming the house has an appraised value of $2,000,000, she's theoretically paid the Jarvis family $4,000,000 for the house.  The bank would loan Leslie 80% of the appraised value ($1,600,000), and Leslie had to pay the balance with cash at closing --- $2,200,000.  She only had ONE million.  Where the hell did she get the rest?!  And now she's got contractors working on the house all day & half the night.  Who's paying THEM?  I keep thinking all this will crash around her.  Either that or the writers have absolutely no idea the limits of a million dollars.  Sounds like a "lot of money", but it obviously ain't when we look at Leslie's spending since she got that million dollar check in August.

    • Vernon is an idiot. Why would he have Sharon in the same hotel that Leslie is staying at?
    • Yes, that out of the blue return was odd. Maybe GG found a forgotten clause in the contract he signed when he was wooed to ABC and they were forced to take him back! Like George Reinholt he talked about the contract that promised him primetime roles. But it was loaded in the networks favor. I think it was Gloria Loring that re-signed at Days on the promise of primetime opportunities, but that was all it was- she was put up for guest spots and TV movies but not necessarily guaranteed that she get the role.
    • I still am baffled by why Monty brought back stunt hire Gerald Gordon in the early '80s out of nowhere for like a year. I haven't found anyone who can come up with a thing he did in that second stint of note.
