As if 44 didn't cause multiple preemptions. It's also different now with streaming and POP.  Daytime has always been a third-rate dumping ground so the networks chase whatever they 'think' is important. It's worse now because the cable news networks have made evening news less relevant - why do you think it's Scotf Pelley cutting in. Name a time when a president broke in on Saturday or Sunday afternoon during college or pro football - where there are millions more watching. Yeah, they don't. Soaps are just not a network priority.

JT/JW have been believable as mother/son from the get-go. JT is just fine but forcing Villy and the icky Reed angle has not helped. How can the writers not see what we do? JT/GT sizzle even with just glances. JT/AH don't have that thing at all. I wish Thad would return

Why are we still debating about that wack azz writer Pratt?

Sally's boring but at least we don't have 'crazy' Sharon running in manic circles and ghost Mariah, and inmate Victor sexing up doctors and terribly contrived storylines like a wacko shrink obsessed with Nick (and Sage, because...same thing) based on some stupid diving accident. Pratt's 'Social Services' attitude (i.e. Black and pregnant characters drive up the budget) toward the Winters.

Pratt's storylines were godawful too and worse still, he didn't know a thing about the characters and didn't give one good god d*mn.

there are the few who can't stand to see anyone else but Crap Pratt and Jill F'ing P., who either got fired or were forced out for almost ruining this show, who still insists they were the saviors of Y&R. I personally are glad they both are gone and hope they never darken thi show's doorsteps again.

I was literally JUST about to come here and comment how AH has been on everyday in February. I'm so sick of her. She really brings the show down. Maybe that's why February has been a shitty month. I was loving December, and she wasn't on so much that month.

I'm not giving Sally a pass, she needs to step it the hell up, storywise.

People are probably harder on her because she's been here before and she supposedly knows the show (she knows enough to successfully rehabilitate characters who many assumed were damaged beyond repair) but you have to build stories at the same time that your are building characters and she is faltering.

I need her to get some help in constructing some proper storylines. The foundations have already been laid, the Fenmore story, for example, began as being very timely but has since languished in a muddle.

JMO but Fenmore's should be the A story, maybe Jill's heart story is one of the B stories and then there are low priority C and D stories.

The core actors, like TEB, JW, SC, ED, MTS plus supporting actors like MM, CG and JT, BJ,  are all game and you have CK who are seems to be doing well lately.

Also, the fairly new hires Abhi Sinha and Darnell Kirkwood are each fairly charming, so I applaud these castings but both characters should probably be interacting with as many other characters in their age group as possible. They don't need to be entangled in a major storyline (although technically Ravi is supposedly part of one) but float them in scenes with other characters in the meantime. Noah, Mariah, Devon, Hillary- they all should be interacting at Crimson Lights, the Underground, Newman Towers, the GCAC. It's particularly weird that Devon and Jordan haven't interacted yet given Lily's friendship and her close relationship with her brother. If Lily hadn't been saddled with an old married lady persona, she would've already invited Devon for drinks with Jordan (Cane can stay at the office) maybe to cheer Devon up and acquaint Jordan with more of her family.

(Question: Does Jordan know Malcolm?)

SS has what she needs to make a decent soap but honestly, she needs to get some help with formulating some stories with forward motion (the Fenmore story practically writes itself). I'm having a tough time understanding why there are no storylines with forward progress.

I do agree that Lily, hilary, Devon..etc should be mixinf it up.  Didnt hilary and chelsea interact not too long ago?  I could see them being friends.

I will say I was surprised Chelsea was feeling guilt about the Christian secret...and if that keeps her from fully dating Nick...then good.

I noticed during the Newman family dinner that there is a hint of Abby vs victoria...and while that is a organic conflict...there has not been any focus or build up to this...unless this is the start of the build up. Even though MO isnt a great actress, she seems able to play the bitch on wheels that Victoria used to be.  Also, can someone brush AH's hair?

I think Lauren needs to be seen more in the Fenmore story..even visit Jill at the hospital.

Hilary WAS friends with Sharon, but out of nowhere, it was dropped and Hilary would go on to post that stupid a** story about Sharon on GC Buzz.

And I'd be all for Abby v. Victoria as I've always hated how they made Abby assimilate into the Newmans with such ease. I hate how they made Abby drop her disdain for Nikki/Victoria with such ease. I always hoped that Abby (along with Adam) would've been the 2 Newman siblings to cause Nikki and her gruesome twosome grief; however, that stupidly didn't happen.

Hillary and Chelsea did interact just as Hillary was moving out of the penthouse and Chelsea talked about having to practically start over after Adam. Because they were neighbors it was an easy interaction that seemed to make sense but now that Hillary is out of the penthouse, I'm not sure what cause they have to interact other than at random.

Lily and Sharon had a similar interaction at Crimson Lights, where Sharon talked about now having to run Crimson Lights on her own, while maintaining another job and Lily talked about being in a similar position (I guess Lily still manages the GCAC?) For years, I've been wondering why these two never interact, given how close Dru and Sharon once were so these scenes seemed long overdue and they were thoughtfully written, IMO.

Yeah, I've been noticing that there is a clear intent to pin Abby and Victoria as rivals, I always thought that would've happened years ago but maybe no one thought Abby was on Victoria's level to be taken seriously? Maybe if they hadn't wasted all that time trying to make Abby the Naked Heiress? Some people claimed to enjoy that, I was on a break from Y&R during most of that time,so I can't rightfully say whether or not that was a waste of time.

The naked heriess was during a time when another actress played Abby.  She was more like a Paris hilton type then a serious business woman.  MO couldnt have played that story..imho...shes too serious..or that is how she plays Abby.

Now that I think of it...it does make sense that Sharon and lily should interact more.

I guess Hilary and chelsea could interact at Nick's bar/club?

I was actually wondering whether Marcy Rylan could've played Abby as a junior executive in training rather than the Naked Heiress? In other words, was that whole storyline of having Abby be the Naked Heiress worth the effort? I don't know.

Does Hillary normally go to the Underground though? She would have to have a reason to go. From what I see in previews, it looks like SS/MY are trying to make The Underground more of a social 'go to' place, so maybe Hillary will have more cause to go.

    • My rationalization (for whatever its worth) is that I'll give a pass to a character who has both been recast and is now written by a different staff (again, I'm under the assumptive that we all know right from wrong). One doubts the current writers want EJ to be a rapist, Julie to be prejudice, Philip to have one leg, or Xander to be a kidnapper.  But, that's what they inherited.  These are characters that resonate with the demo.  And, by soap justice standards, all evildoers receive justice, but doesn't always mean jail.
    • I’m up to May 16, 1996. Lucy/A-M are getting married and they were holding this big secret for weeks on where the location was… all to find out it’s going to be an ad for Universal Studios haha.  Probably was fun back in the 90s, but a bit cheesy looking back now. Although they were on a boat alone, at night, reminiscing about Brent, and A-M promised a tearful Lucy that “the worst is over, there is nothing to be afraid of anymore”… and right after, freaking JAWS comes out of the water to attack them on the ride. LOL. I’ve actually been on that ride and it was as scary in person as it was watching it, but that scene ended up being very cheesy given how serious it was supposed to be. Rick being there in Florida with everyone makes zero sense considering he doesn’t hang out with any of these people, but he’s clearly there because Phillip has shown up. Very plot-driven, but at least I’m getting old flashbacks of Rick/Phillip during this. But yeah, outside of the nuptials, this wedding and the Universal Studios trip (ad) turned out to be more about Phillip than anything. Skulking around in the Frankenstein costume, listening to everyone’s conversations about him, was… interesting. Rick dancing in the street by himself, while the other couples danced together, was pretty funny though. The nuptials were beautiful and I loved seeing A-M/Lucy finally get married. I loved how they mentioned Nadine a few times throughout, but especially during their nuptials. It was a nice touch. I still can’t believe Nick, Susan, Bridget and David weren’t there. I really love the Amanda/Alex rivalry. The digs they make at each other are so funny to me. Dinah and Roger have gone off the deep end with their hatred for each other. She’s making him think he’s going crazy by dressing up as Hart’s mother, gaslighting him into thinking untrue things. Now, he’s putting a drug in her drinks that should make her hallucinate and be psychotic. They both want each other dead, and I can’t imagine they’ll ever come back from this. Blake is now pregnant with twins, and the fear is that Rick is the father, or Rick and Ross are both fathers by split parentage between the twins. I don’t hate this storyline because it’s unique and also possible, which I didn’t realize until I googled it.  The storyline has been on pause for a bit while Rick is in Florida for the wedding, so I’m curious to see where this goes. Annie/Josh have also been on pause a bit given that Reva/Buzz/Alan are all in Florida. I’m sure when Reva gets back home, Josh will continue to lust after her while Annie grows more uneasy. Holly delivered Meg, their child with down syndrome, and she and Fletcher have had a rollercoaster of emotions about it, but overall pretty ‘slow’ and boring here. If I liked Fletcher more, I might care more. I found it really weird that Ben randomly decided to move away and go to boarding school because he felt like he’d be in the way, and Fletcher didn’t really seem to have a big problem with it. Seems more like the writers just didn’t want to deal with him and Meg together. Viviane just confided in Holly that Griffin is Gilly’s father, just as Griffin and Gilly held hands/locked eyes at the diner. Viviane is now trying to seduce Griffin, in hopes that it will make them stay apart. This whole storyline is gross. They’re really going to let a father/daughter get romantic before they know their true relations? And instead of just telling Gilly the truth, Viviane would rather try to cheat on her husband again with Griffin and ‘compete’ with her? This is awful. I’m also losing interest in Dahlia and Marcus. He just told her the truth about her mother, which upset Frank and got Marcus in deeper trouble. But yeah, I’m not really that invested in their budding relationship, especially since she’s still in high school. Oh and they just introduced cell phones on the show and it’s hilarious.  Blake pulls out her cell phone and answers with “Hi, I’m on my CELL phone”. “Yeah, I have a CELL phone” - it’s so funny. They finally updated the opening on May 2, 1996!  Which only covers half the cast, which tells me they will hopefully/finally have two separate openings. It was always weird to me that they could remove someone from the opening quickly, but never add someone new at the same time. The opening was getting so old that half of it was stock images that replaced people that left the show (Nadine, Eleni, Eve, Nick, Mindy, David, Tangie and then some shirtless guy I never could tell who it was). Reva has been on the show for over a year now and she was never in the opening until just now with the update. I can’t believe they let it go that long! Oh same with Annie and Dinah - both were on the show for like 16-17 months before they finally got in the opening.
    • Actually.. I thought she restored Katie back to her more fun loving/self deprecating spirit after being watered down by Marland.  Even the actress that played Katie puts the blame more on Gail Kobe than Long.   I think I understood what she was trying to do with Nola.. but it didn't work.  She was trying to write a character that gets her happily ever after with the man she loves... but struggles with the reality of living in real world after getting her happy ending.  However, the way she went about it was all wrong. Trish, she wisely made the peacemaker of the Lewis family.. though I could understand the actress probably growing restless with being the pragmatic peacemaker by 1985. Unpopular opinion:  I actually think Beth should have stayed dead.  I think it made his embracing of the dark side of Spaulding more realistic once she was dead.. and as we saw, it did affect his relationship with Chelsea during that period.

    • This makes me want to skip ahead, as you know we both share that huge fondness for Kate. You just unlocked a core memory of how much James Scott would start blinking at times

. I genuinely enjoy Dan so much, I really don’t think about James Scott anymore except when the rape story came up because I vividly remember the scenes.
    • I agree with all of this except I loved Leslie with Jacob. It was the old Leslie to me. She was so soft in her scenes with NuTed on Friday, I preferred the return to form.
    • Charmed and Party of Five didn't do too good with the diverse concept...  I doubt 7th Heaven will either. Perhaps maybe do a diverse show about a female minister and her husband and call it something other than 7th Heaven.  I know it's going out on a limb to actually come up with something different and to title it differently.
    • The writers need to reign in Vanessa' character... I can see the actress is trying to reign in the character.. but the writing isn't helping her in her quest. Dani has been going on and on and on about being insecure since the end of her marriage for 55 episodes.. and I'm sick of it.  She's in bed with a younger attractive man and she won't shut up about her insecurities.  I want to tell Andre that the sex isn't worth being tied to this emotional vampire.  No wonder Bill cheated on her (and I do sometimes side with the cheater). I'm really hoping Derek/Ashley are breaking up soon because she's been a total witch and he can do so much better.  Have him in another scene with Hayley or even a 1:1 with Shanice.     I think that's a Danielle Paige quirk.  Her novels are all about symbolism, and she did say that Claire Labine mentored her at Guiding Light.
    • The wonderful Sarah Buxton returns as Morgan DeWitt tomorrow in the S18 YouTube episodes. Shame she didn’t get a longer stint.
