I feel like the death will be a cop out and will be Steven. Liz Gilles and Michael Michele both have made comments this season to stop asking about Steven because he isn’t coming back. It’ll solve their problem of fans asking for him and technically he is a major character.

I doubt it’ll be Liam because he’s Fallon’s love interest and although it *should* be Kirby, they seem determined to hang onto that boring character.

I wouldn't mind if it were Steven, I think it would further alienate Liam and Fallon if Liam was unable to attend the funeral because of his investigation.  But, it wouldn't move the rest of the story forward, except if it was a set up for recasting the role, like in the original series.

Although, it does raise speculation about cause of the original actor being fired if current cast doesn't want to discuss the issue or at least mollify fans by saying they wished he would return as well...

I think the writing is on the wall for Adam to become obsessed with Cristol after helping her being cured from the tumor.  So, my current bet is on either Blake or Culhane, but the main issue will be that Liam is unable to attend the service, Fallon has an affair, and then Liam returns proofing his father's innocence.  If that lady playing the senator's assistance was a bigger name I would say that she was the key to the investigation, but given the show's penchant for solving things off screen, I think Liam will do fine on his own.

Did anyone else catch all of the Wizard of Oz references?  Fallon was was wearing a blue gingham dress, they showed just Kirby's shoes sticking out,  Jeff offered Alexis an emerald necklace, and they followed the golden clip to find Liam.  Also, Cristol needed a new brain, Leo the contractor caused Culhane to need courage, and something about Adam and a heart  I know they already did a Wizard of Oz themed episode, but the imagery was really interesting.

Love the reference to The Colbys in Space from the OG series when Fallon was captured by the aliens.  BTW, except on soaps, do people still consult huge printed blueprints?  Wouldn't it more likely be digital?  Less cinematic I guess.

That's interesting! I didn't even catch the Oz-references to be honest, but when I look at it I guess the emerald necklace is pretty blatant.

LOL, I never thought about the Jeff in Space plot potentially leading to Fallon being taken away in a space ship. Hell, maybe that's the season cliffhanger? Fallon somehow ends up inside the shuttle and goes into space for a bit lol.

    • This is (maybe) overly simplistic and nonsoapy, but Doug needs to go to Gamblers Anonymous, to deal with the addictive neurological excitement hits that gambling gives him - and which control his life. Vanessa needs to go to therapy to find ways to remain healthfully lusty and sex-positive, but to stay away from anyone who would demean her.
    • YT keeps commending GL clips to me. I discovered Kathleen Cullen was on in Christmas 1987. Was there any talk of making it permanent  or was this just a special visit? I wish they had made the visit permanent. I liked her chemistry with Grant Aleksander.
    • I'm not sure it's as unpopular as you think.  I just think the show knew they were in a bind, and needed a proven couple for the viewers to invest in. Trying to reunite Vanessa and Ross had just failed in 87. I don't think Ed and Holly's affair was well received, as Simon and Garrett had a brother/sister chemistry. Enter Billy and Vanessa, who give you history and an out not to try and do a Josh/Reva/Billy triangle, which would've really wrecked the relationship between Josh and Billy. I'd have been ok with trying Vanessa/Ross again, and doing a Vanessa/Ross/Holly/Billy quad for a while. I hated Nadine. HATED. She had to be the most insufferable also-ran before ATWT's Julia Lindsay. This is where I wish I knew Roger's history better.

    • GROSS. Michael Swan was hot back in his ATWT days. Now he's 76 and WAY past his hot years.
    • Since she kidnapped, locked up and tried to kill her father's wife I'd say that is still a pretty big deal
    • I'm good with the gushing, too. There aren't many soap icons like John Black, and that's important to celebrate and remember. And yes, life does go on for other characters, but as they say, timing is everything. Going sky diving the day before the funeral? And during a week of shows that were so powerful emotionally? No.
    • No. There might have been a slight pause for dramatic effect after his "death," but pretty soon after they showed him in France getting plastic surgery and getting involved with his doctor, then planning with her to bring Christina to France. (She thought he had good reason to do it; she wasn't a bad person or anything). Now that I think of it, there must have been some kind of pause before that, during the 70s. Rita was accused of killing a private patient for an inheritance when she lived in Texas. Part of the backstory was that Roger had been there, too. Not sure exactly when or how long that was.
