Days: Axes 4 Actors

Interesting they fire these 4 but NB who is in the story with them all hasn't even aired yet.

I think they should have kept BB.

The new Ciara should have been the first on any DAYS cutting block.

These actors will not be missed. However, the character of Shawn deserves better. Personally, I would have left him in Maine once Jason Cook made it clear he didn't want anything long term, and not even brought Belle or Claire back at all.

Lani should have worked, but Sal Stowers was lifeless. I liked the potential of her bringing down the corrupt cops (Roman, Hope, Rafe), honest Abe standing by her to the potential detriment of his relationships with the Bradys. It never would have happened anyway, or if she was close to doing so, she'd certainly be labelled a villain for actually doing what was right, go crazy, and then killed off. Abe lamenting her existence.

I also like the idea of Summer conning Maggie. That could have been a good story, but they went about it in the most horrific route imaginable.

Hopefully, like others have noted, Lavoisier will be gone soon. Philip can be successfully recast, but not with this creature. Not with Prince Froglip. And now that we have hunky Dario, and the Hernandez family has been built up, Rafe can be killed off for maximum impact. Probably by the hands of Andre, who'll disappear forever, immediately after.

Note: I also hate Brady and Theresa in every way imaginable. Thank you.

It's both the actors and writing, not the characters. Martha Madison has always projected old and severe and is a passable actress at best. Brandon Beemer has a nice body. That's it. If they were serious about this they'd have worked with Jason Cook and found a strong performer for Belle. But they're not serious, because DAYS almost never is. And as for planning, any writer who does have a real plan to change and evolve the show they (and by 'they' I mean Ken Corday) fire. He doesn't want to change. He just wants to go in and out and be an absentee steward of a crippled show that sort of lazes along.

Sal Stowers had potential for growth on AMC 2.0 - she was very, very, very green but seemed to be improving with the bulk of her time spent with actors like Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams, and with solid writing. (Rob Wilson did the same, albeit he was always far less green and much more charismatic.) On DAYS she has had neither good writing, nor rehearsal time nor solid actors to bounce off of on a regular basis. So she's been terrible. It's sad.

As for Rafe, Dena Higley would kill every other male lead before offing him.

    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
    • I think we all will, isn't that how soaps work? lol
    • ^^ I'll believe it when it actually happens.
