Well, at least they got this part right:

But the gold standard has to be the Mary Vernon/Karr switch—which, unlike the other approximately year-long stories mentioned here, lasted a solid three nail-baiting years. Viewers knew from the start that Jenny’s sister, Karen, switched Jenny’s stillborn baby, Mary, with the daughter of prostitute Katrina. The only misstep in the whole story came when, out of the blue, Katrina told Jenny’s husband, Brad (who’d found out about the switch but kept quiet for Jenny’s sake), that he’d been the father of her daughter too. Can you say retcon, boys and girls?

Was that a retcon? I thought viewers knew he was sleeping with Katrina.

It's an odd article, as they paraphrase an awesome baby switch story (Sheila and Lauren) just to use it as part of Y&R's history of baby switches. But EW always sucks anyway.

I don't comprehend how the Sheila/Lauren baby switch, one of THE biggest stories of any soap in the 90s, was not one of the three at least. It does not compute.

Agreed. That was the first one that came to my mind.

I meant mostly the first sentence, about it being the gold standard for these otherwise [sh!tty] types of stories.

I guess it's a good thing they mentioned Lauren/Sheila at all.I think theirs is one of the more iconic ones even if the baby switch was already a growing trend in soaps.

I knew what you meant. I was just asking if anyone knew what they meant.

Babe/Bianca & Kelly was better than the ATWT one, although Jennifer notFinnigan put in work.

Oh great they gave that beyotch a top 3 credit for one of her rip off stories….shame..

Although I wasn't a big fan of some of the ATWT stories prior to and after, the baby switch story was VERY well done. It involved almost the whole cast, and paced very well. I did, however, lose track of all the names that kid had.....Rory, then????

Johnny?

So when Carly had the baby, he was Rory...then when Gwen had him, he was Billy...then Jennifer called him Johnny? That kid had to be screwed-up big-time.
