    With Stefano running so short of children (even though Kristen and EJ will probably turn up later), I can see him going off on anyone that he thinks was responsible for harming one of them, even if it is Marlena.

    I think this will probably play out as Stefano really trying to scare the hell out of Marlena and then swearing revenge, but not actually planning to go through with it. If not, you are correct, it's really OOC, although that's sort of funny to say for a DAYS character, especially a villain.
