I'd love to know the answer to that question myself. As best as I can figure, though, Nikki fell off the wagon, because Ian's mere presence in her and her family's lives is just so upsetting to her. Which is lame, and probably not the full story, and reeks of (vodka and) plot contrivance, but whatever.

Or with Tyler. But maybe I just wanna see Steve Burton's bloated head explode over the notion of "playing gay." ;)

Back to Nikki's relapse -- doesn't it seem as if she is drinking again because there is something about Ian she hasn't shared with anyone else? I might be way off-base, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn down the road that she and Ian are legally married, thus rendering all her other marriages, including the 18,725 she shares with Victor, null and void.

I agree that it seems there must be something else going on with Ian that has propelled Nikki back into the bottle. But I fear that is only because Ian as a villain has been a total flop and writers think he is more menacing than he really is. I don't see why anything that has surrounded him is so painful to Nikki. The world knows she had a child out of wedlock that she gave up for adoption. Big whoop! She has lived with the past of being a stripper for 30 years. This is nothing. I could almost see if she was dealing with guilt. But why should she feel guilty because she didn't want to raise her rapist ' s child? Whether it turns out that Paul is the father or not at this point doesn't really signify IMO. This just seems all much ado about nothing to me. Especially when you consider that Nikki has killed how many people that the world knows about. Come on.

Cheap, Nikki is falling off the wagon because they have nothing else for her to do. That's the extent of their creativity.

Whenever alcoholic characters start doing just that for years on end, you know the writers have no idea what else to do.
