I'm with Kman, sungrey, Carl and several others here: DAYS needs to be DAYS again, but the writing has to be there to make any return work. And TomSell just. Ain't. It.

i think people are saying Shawn and Belle are played out having been exhausted when they were around. Abby was not when age returned as she was barely used and had a lot of potential

It's good we can have a civil discussion here. Other boards practically roast you alive if you dare like certain actors or characters. Here we can agree to disagree. smile.png

I totally agree- I'm glad the atmosphere here is one of respect and friendship :)

I don't think Tomlin is that bad for DAYS. He's rebuilt the show several times. He just needs someone else who can balance him and make wise decisions. And that doesn't seem to happen. Things like the Daniel obsession continued even after he had been fired for a year, so I don't put that on him.

I get the idea of a character needing their child back to help them storywise...I'm just not sure how often it works out. Other than those few months where Hope was involved in the Philip/Belle/Shawn story, I don't remember her relationship with Shawn ever giving her anything to do.

I've never witnessed Days being "rebuilt" in the 2000s. It's always less-than-half-assed garbage. The closest it came, IMO, was '06 with Milstein, but it was boring rather than awful. Corday, where's the next Plan?

edit: I thought the show was pretty decent that one week (?) in early 2008 when Marlena put Stefano in a coma. That was good.

I mostly meant around early 2008, and then some of what went on in the last few years with things like Kristen's return. It's not what it was in its best years, or even its mediocre years, but I do think he had a role in stopping the show from being canned.

I have no complaints about TomSell...it isn't brilliance, but aside from James E Reilly DAYS has never been defined by its writer. It has a life of its own, it is all about the cast for this particular series.

And when I look at what has become of Y&R, I know how bad it could truly be and so I am happy to tune into DAYS and to see Kate, Marlena, Kristin, Maggie, Stefano, Victor, Lucas etc. DAYS has actors that make the show work, regardless of the writing.

DAYS definitely changed when Tomlin and Whitesell came on in late 2008, and it was for the worse IMO. It's not just that they are mediocre writers, it's their whole vision of DAYS that I don't like. All headwriters have their own vision, but TomSell's DAYS-universe is not one I enjoy or identify with.

I don't mind Molly. What I mind is the amount of airtime that Melanie hogs. We already have Daniel hogging enough of it. We don't need another Jonas. If I'm going to have to endure a Ben/Abby/Chad/_____ quad, I'd rather have Stephanie back for it. Now if Melanie wants to return home for Daniel's funeral and leave a month later with his ashes, she's welcome to come to Salem. Otherwise, stay the hell away.

What did Milstein write?
