So Lucious' mother is alive. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

The only decent things are:

1) pulling Anika away from obsessing about Hakeem. It was unbelievable. They've made her actions about power/money and focus  more on her relationship with Lucious.

2) those looks Lucious gives Cookie...especially when she's not looking.

3) Andre and the performances of Trai Byers

This show is horrible. It's not even the break neck pacing that's the issue, it's that nothing seems connected in any real way and Empire tries to be like 5 different shows every other week, which destroys every narrative story it tries to implement within record time.

I watched it and I enjoyed it. I have been enjoying the last few episodes of the show. I think it may have been Rhonda that went over the side. I do think that it would be terrible if Anika got away with killing Rhonda's/Andre's baby and also succeeds in killing Rhonda.

But I'm not sure if the writers would have the Lyons lose another grandchild, and that would happen if Anika went over the side and died. Who knows though maybe one of the women will go over the side, but still be hanging on dear life and Andre will rescue them.

I am enjoying Leslie Uggams in her role. Lol, when she told Hakeem that she didn't know why she had originally thought he was ugly.  I am enjoying her interacting with Andre, if she ends up having a favorite grandchild, it should be him, lol.  She has her issues, but I like how matter of fact she is and how she keeps dropping bombshells.

I also like Tyreke and I like that he's Lucious's half-brother. That's a nice little soapy twist. I like that he works for the law and I am interested in seeing how he continues to interact with everyone on canvas. I am also glad to see Tobias Truvillion again, but I do not trust D-Major.

I definitely think that Lucious was wrong for what he said to Jamal last episode, but I understand him being frustrated with Jamal's relationship with D-Major. D-Major seems shady and untrustworthy and he has been using Jamal. I think that Lucious has a good read on D-Major. I could see D-Major ending up really hurting Jamal.

Finale sucked! The episode from last week was better and IMO should have been the finale. The finale dragged on and was too slow. Very predictable too

Catching up on the 2nd half of the season. I liked the way Mimi and Camilla were dispatched.

I don't understand why they bothered making Becky and Porscha regulars, then proceed to barely use them.

Hakeem must be hung like an elephant with every woman on the show falling onto that "dee" Camilla, Anika, Tiana and Laura all up on it...

It is good that they really started using Tiana again, I wondered where she was. Three episodes left to go...

Exactly B! Did they learn NOTHING from last year? Just because you can doesn't mean you should or at least have the element of surprise with your guest stars. I would rather watch and then see Carey or Diggs or anyone pop up and not know in advance that they are appearing. I still can't believe that Daniels revealed that after the mega ratings and stuff from S1 everyone came out of the woodwork to try and get on the show and they've just let them with no respect to the stories that are going on. It was pointless stuff too.

I can see S3 going the same way as S2 tbh.

    • I absolutely loved the last few episodes—devoured them! If Trisha and Ambyr’s performances aren’t Emmy-worthy, I don’t know what is. I wasn’t bothered by the lawyer girl not being at the gala from the start, or the grandkids being absent, or Vanessa being MIA. It just goes to show how unnecessarily huge the Dupree family is. And like Toups said, you can’t cram the entire cast into a single episode. Oh and the cue when Leslie was having that fantasy was epic, very DAYS-like. They should keep it and develop it   Minor nitpicks: Yeah, Ted seriously needs a recast—been saying that since day one. I still don’t know where he stands, and he just comes off as a generic nice guy. Not having Ted and Bill share a single scene since the show started? Huge missed opportunity. And not having Leslie get anywhere near Bill in one of her wigs? Another big miss. It really weakened the impact of her big reveal about Bill’s involvement. Now it just feels a bit like fan fiction. I’m totally confused by Vanessa and Doug’s “arrangement.” One moment it seems like they’re in an open relationship, and the next Vanessa acts completely shocked when Doug so much as hints at her “distractions.” Huh? Can anyone explain what’s going on there?
    • You’d think he would’ve learned after the way Sprina took off.  I hope we get a proper Emma/Gio/Trina/Kai quad, as friends, romantic rivals, etc. In the few scenes that the four of them have had together, I felt like there was a natural chemistry between all of them, similar to the way that Cam/Spencer/Trina/Joss was, in the beginning.  And, it would be a lot better than all this stuff with Kai’s surgery.
    • Hooray we made the exact same critique to Londonscribe!!!!!
    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
