Ron believes he learned soap storytelling from the campy, outrageous Paul Rauch era of the mid- and late-'80's on OLTL, but I have news for him: even then, the writers and Rauch were very careful to base the stories in some reality. And this was a show, ladies and gentlemen, that had characters traveling back in time and into lost underground cities.

One of the problems with the "camp" on GH is that it's just disconnected moments that don't even match up to what they're intended to be. Like everything with Spencer at the Nurses' Ball. People say oh, he's a true Cassadine, this is so funny and so cute! Yet he's going around doing knee slides like he just got out of an 80's musical. What kind of "true Cassadine" ever did that? They just thought, yet again, that the child who plays him is so hilarious that literally anything he does must be shoved oncamera.

Then you have poor Parry Shen who drowned in the biggest autotunefest I have heard since the last cast member of The Hills released an album. What am I supposed to say to that? Wow, Brad's turning into a robot?

The autotuning reminded me of this (and this would have been a far better song for Obrecht than "Cabaret sponsored by Depends" - thankfully ABBA doesn't allow their songs to be used unless you offer them your first-born children).

And then there was the whole weird thing with the dummy, where everyone at the hospital applauded Epiphany for destroying property. I will say that JJY and Kristina Wagner salvaged that by playing it straight.

I will say I liked the moment where Bobbie was watching Lucas and Brad and said, in a somewhat coquettish, lighthearted manner, if she wondered if they were getting back together. It, I don't know, it made me a little wistful, and was a good reminder of how weird the Spencers truly are - that they grew up as or surrounded by teenage prostitutes, and nothing is ever going to be typical USA respectable for them. Moments like that remind me of why I miss Jackie Zeman when she's not on the show.

I love Jackie and Bobbie and I always have, but I honestly have a very difficult time with her face these days. Moreso than ever before. And clearly she does too - she barely seems to know how to speak out of it or act with it, or use her voice anymore. It's done very peculiar things to her performance, especially this time. She's like an animatronic puppet underwater.

The autotune is somehow even worse on Molly and T.J.'s number. They do not sound human.

I agree with you about Jackie...I guess as she has such limited appearances, it doesn't bother me too much. Small moments like her hugging fake Luke remind me of the show's past and identity in ways that stuff like, "oh that Anne Logan" don't.

I tried to watch a minute of that song with the women about crashing their car into a bridge, or whatever, and I started guffawing when they were all laying on the ground in some sort of horribly lit Busby Berkeley formation. The whole thing was so dated. Kristen Alderson's voice is a very watered down Susanna Hoffs so I took it all as a very very budget Bangles tribute video.

Liz, Nikolas and Ric is all just unappealing. None of them look very good. How soon before Ric is thrown under the bus for Nikolas? I like the chemistry better between Liz and Ric and despise how Nikolas is panting after Liz, but none of these pairings do Liz any favors.

Ric's return has been pretty pointless. The thing I was looking forward to the most was scenes of him and Molly and they've done NOTHING with them. 90% of his scenes are just him trying to get with Liz and the other 10% is trying to convince people he's not Julian's boss.

Wednesday:

Lucas was shot in front of a nurse and a doctor and he really couldn't be more screwed. They are completely useless. And Anna runs into the gallery like she stumbled into it, Sam's holding her gun like it's a doll, Julian is trying to squeeze some (any) sympathy out of his performance. My God... HORRIFICALLY acted scenes. And everyone's standing around looking as if they don't know where they should be standing and what they should be saying.

Why the [!@#$%^&*] do Spinelli and Ellie need to leave the apartment? Have Franco and Carly NEVER heard of headphones? Anything to squeeze out a few more seconds of "drama" rolleyes.gif I can't believe they got all horny because of this. That's literally all there is to their relationship.

Thank God Morgan's yelling loud enough for his eyelids to finally get past that "half-stoned, half-asleep" look he constantly has. I hope Ava doesn't come back pregnant with some relative of Sabrina's that just happened to work at Sonny's hotel.

I liked Shawn telling TJ the truth about Jordan. I like the kid that plays TJ, even if he still is a bit green. And did Shawn really punch a bush?

I was surprised with the drug bust, honestly. I was sure they would pull a switcheroo and it would somehow end up being paintings or whatever. Jordan reactions were hilarious. This lady is making some really shitty stuff work.

Wow, after months and months of people threatening to shoot other people and never doing jackshit about it, FauxLuke shoots someone in cold blood four times. Although I'm sort of confused as to why you would use a silencer after the first shot.

And I love how when Lucas got shot it was obviously in the shoulder (same exact place Liz got shot I think, I wonder if Nik will invite him to move into Wyndemere), yet everyone is all, "He got shot in the chest! Luckily the bullet missed his heart!" and now he's on a ventilator and unconscious... huh?!?

    • I’m up to May 16, 1996. Lucy/A-M are getting married and they were holding this big secret for weeks on where the location was… all to find out it’s going to be an ad for Universal Studios haha.  Probably was fun back in the 90s, but a bit cheesy looking back now. Although they were on a boat alone, at night, reminiscing about Brent, and A-M promised a tearful Lucy that “the worst is over, there is nothing to be afraid of anymore”… and right after, freaking JAWS comes out of the water to attack them on the ride. LOL. I’ve actually been on that ride and it was as scary in person as it was watching it, but that scene ended up being very cheesy given how serious it was supposed to be. Rick being there in Florida with everyone makes zero sense considering he doesn’t hang out with any of these people, but he’s clearly there because Phillip has shown up. Very plot-driven, but at least I’m getting old flashbacks of Rick/Phillip during this. But yeah, outside of the nuptials, this wedding and the Universal Studios trip (ad) turned out to be more about Phillip than anything. Skulking around in the Frankenstein costume, listening to everyone’s conversations about him, was… interesting. Rick dancing in the street by himself, while the other couples danced together, was pretty funny though. The nuptials were beautiful and I loved seeing A-M/Lucy finally get married. I loved how they mentioned Nadine a few times throughout, but especially during their nuptials. It was a nice touch. I still can’t believe Nick, Susan, Bridget and David weren’t there. I really love the Amanda/Alex rivalry. The digs they make at each other are so funny to me. Dinah and Roger have gone off the deep end with their hatred for each other. She’s making him think he’s going crazy by dressing up as Hart’s mother, gaslighting him into thinking untrue things. Now, he’s putting a drug in her drinks that should make her hallucinate and be psychotic. They both want each other dead, and I can’t imagine they’ll ever come back from this. Blake is now pregnant with twins, and the fear is that Rick is the father, or Rick and Ross are both fathers by split parentage between the twins. I don’t hate this storyline because it’s unique and also possible, which I didn’t realize until I googled it.  The storyline has been on pause for a bit while Rick is in Florida for the wedding, so I’m curious to see where this goes. Annie/Josh have also been on pause a bit given that Reva/Buzz/Alan are all in Florida. I’m sure when Reva gets back home, Josh will continue to lust after her while Annie grows more uneasy. Holly delivered Meg, their child with down syndrome, and she and Fletcher have had a rollercoaster of emotions about it, but overall pretty ‘slow’ and boring here. If I liked Fletcher more, I might care more. I found it really weird that Ben randomly decided to move away and go to boarding school because he felt like he’d be in the way, and Fletcher didn’t really seem to have a big problem with it. Seems more like the writers just didn’t want to deal with him and Meg together. Viviane just confided in Holly that Griffin is Gilly’s father, just as Griffin and Gilly held hands/locked eyes at the diner. Viviane is now trying to seduce Griffin, in hopes that it will make them stay apart. This whole storyline is gross. They’re really going to let a father/daughter get romantic before they know their true relations? And instead of just telling Gilly the truth, Viviane would rather try to cheat on her husband again with Griffin and ‘compete’ with her? This is awful. I’m also losing interest in Dahlia and Marcus. He just told her the truth about her mother, which upset Frank and got Marcus in deeper trouble. But yeah, I’m not really that invested in their budding relationship, especially since she’s still in high school. Oh and they just introduced cell phones on the show and it’s hilarious.  Blake pulls out her cell phone and answers with “Hi, I’m on my CELL phone”. “Yeah, I have a CELL phone” - it’s so funny. They finally updated the opening on May 2, 1996!  Which only covers half the cast, which tells me they will hopefully/finally have two separate openings. It was always weird to me that they could remove someone from the opening quickly, but never add someone new at the same time. The opening was getting so old that half of it was stock images that replaced people that left the show (Nadine, Eleni, Eve, Nick, Mindy, David, Tangie and then some shirtless guy I never could tell who it was). Reva has been on the show for over a year now and she was never in the opening until just now with the update. I can’t believe they let it go that long! Oh same with Annie and Dinah - both were on the show for like 16-17 months before they finally got in the opening.
    • Actually.. I thought she restored Katie back to her more fun loving/self deprecating spirit after being watered down by Marland.  Even the actress that played Katie puts the blame more on Gail Kobe than Long.   I think I understood what she was trying to do with Nola.. but it didn't work.  She was trying to write a character that gets her happily ever after with the man she loves... but struggles with the reality of living in real world after getting her happy ending.  However, the way she went about it was all wrong. Trish, she wisely made the peacemaker of the Lewis family.. though I could understand the actress probably growing restless with being the pragmatic peacemaker by 1985. Unpopular opinion:  I actually think Beth should have stayed dead.  I think it made his embracing of the dark side of Spaulding more realistic once she was dead.. and as we saw, it did affect his relationship with Chelsea during that period.

    • This makes me want to skip ahead, as you know we both share that huge fondness for Kate. You just unlocked a core memory of how much James Scott would start blinking at times

. I genuinely enjoy Dan so much, I really don’t think about James Scott anymore except when the rape story came up because I vividly remember the scenes.
    • I agree with all of this except I loved Leslie with Jacob. It was the old Leslie to me. She was so soft in her scenes with NuTed on Friday, I preferred the return to form.
    • Charmed and Party of Five didn't do too good with the diverse concept...  I doubt 7th Heaven will either. Perhaps maybe do a diverse show about a female minister and her husband and call it something other than 7th Heaven.  I know it's going out on a limb to actually come up with something different and to title it differently.
    • The writers need to reign in Vanessa' character... I can see the actress is trying to reign in the character.. but the writing isn't helping her in her quest. Dani has been going on and on and on about being insecure since the end of her marriage for 55 episodes.. and I'm sick of it.  She's in bed with a younger attractive man and she won't shut up about her insecurities.  I want to tell Andre that the sex isn't worth being tied to this emotional vampire.  No wonder Bill cheated on her (and I do sometimes side with the cheater). I'm really hoping Derek/Ashley are breaking up soon because she's been a total witch and he can do so much better.  Have him in another scene with Hayley or even a 1:1 with Shanice.     I think that's a Danielle Paige quirk.  Her novels are all about symbolism, and she did say that Claire Labine mentored her at Guiding Light.
    • The wonderful Sarah Buxton returns as Morgan DeWitt tomorrow in the S18 YouTube episodes. Shame she didn’t get a longer stint.

    • Tbf, just about...if not all the episodes...involving RC and DP have a character fixated on something. Cat. Photo album. This time...tatts.
    • Not to harp on, and I don't know if it's always been there and I just noticed it today, but why the hell does Ashley have her microwave on top of the fridge? What sense does that make? Irrationally, It made her more intolerable than she already was in this episode.
