May 25, 201312 yr Member Definitely who's the daddy stories. I'm pretty sick of pregnancy stories in general on soaps anymore and I've only been watching since 2006.
May 25, 201312 yr Member One thing that annoys me is these same stories done on daytime are copied on primetime and when its done on primetime critics just praise it and call it good storytelling. A lot of times I can't watch certain episodes of a primetime show because the story will be something already beat to death in daytime before. This isn't really a cliche its more of a pet peeve but my cliche would be who's the daddy. That has played itself out! Those stories became uncool around 1998. Enough with those! And what stories are those? Because soap operas can't take credit for classic stories that came out of melodramas.
May 25, 201312 yr Member Female soap characters using a baby to trap a man into a relationship/marriage. Grief sex. When people are grieving, I doubt they're thinking about getting plowed. Rapists becoming their victim's true love. Always hated this on soaps and the ONLY exception of this is Roger & Holly b/c Holly did love him before he raped her, and Nancy Curlee did a d*mn good job in the latter years making the rape be a huge obstacle in keeping these two a part. Soap characters not using condoms. Actually, the entire '90s Roger/Holly story was a retcon. Back in the '70s/1980, Roger and Holly were NEVER meant to be "soulmates." I'll admit, the chemistry between the actors made it somewhat believable, but Roger was nothing other than the incidental father of Holly's child (who she passed off as Ed's because Ed was better) and Holly's abuser until the '90s writers ignored what came before and made Roger and Holly out to be retroactive soulmates. Peggy was Roger's redemption back then, not Holly and Christina. I'm also sick of women getting a free pass to smack men around. If a woman smacks another woman, you expect the smacked woman to fight back (and I roll my eyes). Why do women get a free pass to attack men? Just because most men could throw one punch to knock a woman out? My Philly-raised opinion is, you'd better make that first shot count, lady. 'Cause if you started the physical violence, you don't get NO sympathy from me, whether you're some nobody or Erica Kane. Edited May 25, 201312 yr by katie_9918
May 28, 201312 yr Member Characters talking to themselves. Doesn't happen as much, but it still happens. I would prefer motivations to come through some other way. Yeah the slap has to go. I can let it pass if something intense happens and it makes sense in the moment, which is rare.
