April 9, 201313 yr Member I wonder if anyone has examined how TP treats Caucasian characters in his works (probably not). They're pretty much the equivalent of black people in Elvis movies.
April 9, 201313 yr Member Wait, black people were in Elvis' movies? You need to look really hard. It's fun to play "Fly in the Buttermilk" with Elvis movies. Be especially watchful for bartenders, valets and - my particular favorite - maniacally grinning backup musicians pretending to be wildly impressed by the skinny white guy draining every last bit of soul from music they've been playing for years on the chitlin circuit. Smile brother. I SAID SMILE!! Really, watch the musicians in an Elvis movie especially the later ones. It's like watching a human spirit die right in front of you.
April 13, 201313 yr Member Speaking of "Why Did I Get Married Too?,"* what the hell is up with Janet Jackson's Jheri curl in that movie? Was that her tribute to brother Michael or something? (*okay, not really.)
April 16, 201312 yr Member "The Boondocks" pointed out the fact that the lighter-skinned Black man is usually the "hero" in a Tyler Perry story while the darker-skinned one is relegated to "villain." I think they were onto something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRfDgnapUAw
April 16, 201312 yr Member For sure, "brown skinned bald dude from Law and Order" and "dude who looks like Shemar Moore" pretty much describe the villains and heroes of Tyler Perry films. Edited April 16, 201312 yr by kalbir

I'm not a huge fan of Elvi, but he DID do very well on Gospel material, and his 1968 special features plenty of black folks. Anything with the Blossoms in it worth watching. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7zSN4-c16c The movies ARE pretty laughable in alot of ways, but then everyone makes fun of those. I guess they are what they are. Edited May 5, 201312 yr by alphanguy74
