March 5, 201312 yr Member I think the Golden Era was from the inception 1930 to 1999 when passions was introduced. I think the American Daytime Serial ended with passions because no soap has been produced since. I don't even think the 70s is when they hit there "Peak" like some say. In 1970 most shows were 30 minutes while in 1980 most were 60 minutes. Well?? What do you people think??????
March 5, 201312 yr Member mid 70s to 2000. After 2000 soaps started going downhill. And, finally around 2002/2003 they just went to hell in a handbasket.
March 5, 201312 yr Member Well, for every individual soap, it's different, but we can find general patterns. As for ABC and Bell soaps, I consider the Golden Age to be the 70's before the addition of "Nouveau Riche" tycoons (Victor Newman, Adam Chandler, Asa Buchanan, The Quartermaines). The Silver Age to be much of the 80's with the adventure stories and such. Bronze Age to be the "Social Issues Age" of the early to mid 90's...lasting till about '97, when we started getting the dreck we have now. Edited March 5, 201312 yr by Winchester91

March 5, 201312 yr Member The Golden Era of Soaps ended in 93....after that all the shows looked the same..
March 5, 201312 yr Member Yeah, it depends on the soap. For AMC, it seems late '70s-early '80s was the 'Golden Era'. I guess 1989-1995 could be considered a 'Silver Era'.
