I am not for any Brooke/Dimitri pairing. A triangle with Adam would never work for most dedicated longtime fans.

PP is looking for the 18-49 age demo so Brooke, Adam, Dimitri have aged out of this key demo PP is trying to attract.

How would Brooke/Adam/Dimitri be a turn off for that Demo? Most ages in that demo (Specificly 30-49) started watching (or watched) when those characters were front and center! Also, most people between ages 25 and 49 who have never watched would probobley like stores centered around older people as opposed to highschoolers. Also, haveing more vets will help balance out the younger people.

I think people are reading too much into this "18-49" thing.

I think the super-couple mantra worked wonders in the 1980s/1990s, but I think starting with the 2000s.. the super-couple thing started to work against the shows instead of helping them. Soaps haven't totally adapted and evolved.. hence why they were dropping like flies.

SuperCouples bring in the mass fanbases, thus ratings.

None of that matters. Ellebelle has spoken. We must adhere to what she's 'sick of' and doesn't want to read about any longer. The fact that I could GAFF about what she's sick or not sick of doesn't seem to compute.

And speaking of - I'm sick of people who are seemingly too intelligent to 'tolerate' my views on a soap and think they're oh so clever by responding with 'I need to get a life.' If you're that intelligent and oh so above us mere life lacking people what are you doing posting daily on a soap opera messageboard? And more frequently than I am, I might add - project much Eric? Oh and the one that wants to marry him. Can you please and then take a LONG honeymoon together. A trip for the two of you would be a vacation for me as well. Win win.

Now I like what I like. I will express my views on what like and when I'm not happy about hacks screwing with it. If you don't care for what I post scroll. Or just place me on ignore. Very simple.

So that's a no for the wedding? Argh, I'm going to have to juggle the seat assignments again.

It is a industry thing with advertisers who finance shows and keep them on the air. Going younger, getting the younger viewers. The entertainment industry is targeting the 18-49 age demographics for viewership simply for the funding that comes from advertisers and others. The Over 50 actors on the show have aged out as far as the key demo that PP has made clear they are moving for the key demo which is 18-49. It just is what it is in today's market.

That's another reason I'm leery of nostalgia returns and making everyone part of the "core." It makes the shows insular and harder for people to get into. It chokes off potential entry points for new audience members and turns the show into a country club that only certain "real" fans can truly enjoy.

Nostalgia returns (bringing back of past characters) can affect the forward progressive story telling. But, maintaining the core is critical for viewership and for stability of a show too. and all fans are insular in ways because they have their favorite shows/characters and will FF other characters they are simply not interested in. It is just a issue of choice and preference.

Part of the problem with the "supercouple" label is that the people who use it now use it wrong. Part of the recipe for supercouples is that they break up every now and then then find their way back to each to each other. But now, nobody wants their supercouple to do anything but lay in bed and tell each other how perfectly happy they are. A supercouple that doesn't have any drama becomes wallpaper.

Also the concept is just outdated. Supercouples come from the Harlequin Romance model of soaps. I'm not interested in that. Two people fated/destined to be together forever...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Spare me that teenage mess. Especially when you're talking about grown ass women like Brooke, Angie or Dixie. People change. Even loving couples fall out of sync with each other. If Adam isn't around why should Brooke have to cloister herself in the Chandler mansion like a nun? If Jesse is going to keep acting like Grade A [!@#$%^&*] up over and over again why should Angie be forced to forgive him over and over again? And maybe the reason Dixie keeps dying is because it's the only way she can get a break from Tad.

I love Brooke/Adam but I also loved Brooke/Tom and Brooke/Edmund. I'm more than willing to see what happens with Brooke/Dimitri.

I have been married for 40 plus years (40th on March 30 this year) and so unconditional love and forgiveness is always doable. True Soulmates and SuperCouples can survive all obstacles and overcome all things in life. Loving couples stay in sync with each other. They don't give up and throw in the towel, even with the testings and trials of life. It is called the vows taken. BTW me and mine, going strong and doing just fine, thank you very much.

I've never understood why 18-49 is lumped together. The range is so massive.

Anyway, those characters are not a turn-off to me and I'm on the younger end of the range. I think people of any age get pulled in by good compelling story- I don't care if the characters are in their 60s or teens- even better if there are multiple generations involved. I got hooked on soaps when I was 6 and Todd was on the run and terrorizing blind Nora on OLTL- it was a good exciting story (albeit somewhat inappropriate for kindergarten but I was riveted). I certainly don't buy into the idea that the fact that there aren't really any characters in their 30s means that 30somethings will automatically tune out, especially if they have any history whatsoever with the show.

What about when the shows were on Network TV? Whenever they brought fan favorites the ratings did go up yet they started teh 18-49 crap!! Besides if what you are telling us about PP is true why are they bringing in these characters??

I am also on the lower end. I got hooked/interested because of Jesse and Angie!! Up until now the younger people never interested me. Now that they have believable teenagers I am now invested in the younger set. That said, I am still interested in the vets.

Sit me in the back so I can stand up when the preacher asks if anyone has just cause. Thanks!

Marry me.wub.png

If you ever need Canadian citizenship--I'm game :D

Been there done that. Just marry them and then he can be recurring. Brooke doesn't need another romance - esp with Erica's leftovers which I've never found amusing - to have story. Why not do this with Opal or Dixie? Tad's been away - doesn't she need a new romance.

My couple have NEVER had a big, LEGAL wedding. They've had it with others they didn't love. Multiple times with same person on Adam's part. Is is too much to ask to finally have my couple and their fanbase treated with respect and be given some payoff? After 24 yrs of bs hackery?

Maybe it's just me being a gay dude, and the whole gay marriage issue, but what does it matter? I am sure if they had a wedding it would be a small time affair--and you would complain.

1. Adam IS one of Erica's leftovers. He married Erica first, he was obsessed with her, AND because their divorce was never legal, his marriage to Brooke wasn't valid either. If you really wanted Brooke with someone who had never slept with Erica, then be bitter that she didn't marry Edmund. THAT was a wasted opportunity right there.

2. I am so sick of the whole "I've waited X years for this to happen. I deserve this" attitude from fans. I've seen it from fandom after fandom, and it drives me insane. You don't deserve anything. You aren't entitled to anything. Your wants are no more valid or important than any other viewer's. But while we're on the subject, Brooke and Adam have been on-again/off-again since the late 80s. They've had far more time together than a lot of soap couples out there. Get over it.

3. The entire 'supercouple' thing makes me want to gag. Do you know what happens when you have a real supercouple (and for the record, I don't think Brooke and Adam are one, despite your insistence)? The fans bitch and moan and whine and complain and write letters and call and email and say they'll refuse to watch unless X & Y stay together, and it ends up killing most storyline options because the audience gets bored watching their once favorite couple living a normal married life. Then after a while, they end up being a ridiculous caricature of a relationship where all they do it get together and break up again (Tad & Dixie, Erica and Jack, Ryan and Greenlee, and prior to this reboot, I would have said Kendall and Zach), and the end result is that two once good characters are now a hot mess.

:D Completely agreed.

All My Children is based on family oriented themes. There are very few friendships in Daytime soaps now.

And yet, at least to my eyes, this is what the show in its current format has been building so well--*friendships*. We have it with the younger teens, we have it with JR and Cara, we have seen it (though not enough IMHO) with Dixie and Brooke. I really like that.
