Your LEAST Favorite Opening Sequences

This opening, IMO, is just ridiculous, with the cold, gray distant "OMG I'm so deep and depressed" faces as the crowning WTF feature, Laura's dramatic head turn notwithstanding. What IS it about season 9 openings? laugh.png The Season 10 version is MILES better.

Also, UO: the sand castle opening sans pictures rocks my world. ph34r.png

Did someone post the GL rock opening and I missed it?

Nope. I couldn't find it on YouTube. I do know where an audio clip is, though, if you want me to post it.

I liked the Generations theme song, but the actual images had nothing to do with the show. I recall not liking when Sunset Beach changed around its credits.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. The original SB theme is so soapy and sexy; the generic music that they replaced it with totally sucked.

I'm a fan of old school openings. Like Days of our Lives, or Another's World's interlocking rings, or All My Children's disembodied hand opening the photo album.

My least favorite openings are usually the openings where the theme song's lyrics are sung, such as Crystal Gale on Another World, or that OLTL theme by Peabo Bryson or Lou Rawls or somebody and the Johnny Mathis Loving theme or the Passions theme, which I thought was completely wrong for the show.

I'm also not a fan of cast pictures in openings because they're never updated regularly, but realize that's been more or less the standard since YR's charcoal drawings, so I need to get over it. I hate hate hate when actors and characters names are shown in the opening credits. Unless your name is Rosemary Prinz or Beverly McKinsey, you don't need opening credits billing.

Pretty much all the ABC soap openings once they added character names, but ESPECIALLY in the case of PC:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7v21IDh2wE

It just looks so tacked-on. Which, of course, it was.

This is one case where updating the opening was a plus, as the new opening reflected how the show had changed.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned but there was a point when Jamal's name was the ONLY one in all lowercase. ABC got complaints about it.

Hahahahaha, he's right! I remember "jamal". God.

I was pissed when they ended Jamal and Alison for the cutesy, nauseating Colgate Extra White pairing with Rafe, who I was tired of about ten minutes after he arrived. Gaskill only got worse in later stories.

Since they're bringing lots of PC people back to GH they might as well bring Jamal back too. Kiko Ellsworth played at least one other dead dude on GH so he's in good company. I wouldn't mind seeing Jamal around town.

DEAD.

I had no idea about the lowercase thing. How bizarre.

Since I'm blown away that this is already at p14 in less than 24 hours. From what I've skimmed, I have to agree with many comments and it brought back some good (and bad memories). My least favorite:

OLTL -1990s Ugh!

AW - You take me away (just because Crystal Gayle was on the show and was attacked, no reason for song to become theme, even it if hit No. 1 on Country Chart. The graphics. So, sad!)

ATWT - I always called it Farmer Fred (because of Gwen/Will windmill). The irony being they had nothing to do with Snyder Farm.

ATWT - the seasons intro - boring 1993-99

KL - the season after Donna Mills left and they didn't show cast faces, just names - weird, but I know why they did it - because DM left, but still. THAT CRAB!!!!

EON - the last season when it went "punk" - that was the end with the neon lines. (Although it had some pretty funny shots - like Gunther with his feather duster and another one with Gunther rocking out.)

GL - so many bad ones, I can't even list. And it was amazing how they kept changes the whole look and tone pretty frequently and quite jarringly.

Ones that many don't like, but I do:

Y&R Porn Themes - I actually liked the music, everyone was dressed to the nines and some of the best looks (both physically and facial expression - Victor winking, Nikki shaking the hair!)

ATWT - liked the "flushing" - once again, I liked the pictures - everyone looked good, but normal. And, I always loved the final shot of the globe, which was comprised of clips from various episodes of the show (like Emily and Susan fighting!)

EON - 1980 - 1983 - it brought a certain vibrancy to the show, particularly in 1981 when they started with the Raven end shots that turned dark and then they clear bringing the skyline and sunset into view with "The Edge of Night" (as seen in my screenshot) LOL

I haven't seen too many of those, but I know I'm not fond of any for LOVE OF LIFE. Since when is a shot of a fountain outside a hotel a good idea for soap opera's main title sequence? This is LOVE OF LIFE, not "Hotel."

I have to agree with you. The hotel/fountain image was an odd choice.

I thought the '70s intro - with the flowers - was kinda pretty, though.

On the ATWT one. I loved the shots and the globe. It was just the music itself. It wouldn't have been bad if they had just taken out the toilet flushing sound effects.

Nothing like a soap theme thread! They always seem to be so popular. I am sure most of my least favourite have been discussed/posted but here are the three that come to mind....

I know a lot have said they prefer this one over the 2004-2010 version, but I don't. It essentially got rid of the photo album theme that had been preserved through each update up until this point. It felt cheap and I didn't like a lot of the character shots either. It really felt very GL like to me (I am referring to the 2005-2007 one... which I actually didn't mind so much, the style just didn't fit with AMC IMO)... which leads me too....

The music sucked, the visuals were very cheap looking. I just never bought into this one.

Not that it was that bad, I just remember thinking as a kid it was so boring. I never really got into ATWT (aside from brief periods under Hogan and Jean Passanante), so... maybe that's why I don't appreciate it.

Like I said before. That ATWT is my mom's all time favorite soap opening....While, on the other hand. I hate it. It used to give me vertigo when I was 6 years old. LMAO.

The P&G soaps in general were never really my cup of tea. Out of all of them, GL was the only one I watched on a semi-regular basis. Especially during the Reva/Josh/Annie stuff in the mid to late 90's.

AUGH THAT ONE. I swear, whoever thought that was a good idea should've been shot. The music sounds more like something out of an ad for Scrubbing Bubbles, and the visuals are just a bootleg Hold On To Love. Awful.

THAT CRAB!!!!

Remember when Val suffered from a temporal lobe seizure and boiled Bobby and Betsy's pet crabs for dinner? I always felt like that was some sort of meta-commentary on that other crab in question.

I thought the '70s intro - with the flowers - was kinda pretty, though.

The flowers were pretty, yes, but I think they were too generic, for lack of a better word. GUIDING LIGHT had the lighthouse, AS THE WORLD TURNS had the globe, and DAYS has the hourglass, but all LOVE OF LIFE can muster up is a bunch of flowers? Even SEARCH FOR TOMORROW, with just a shot of clouds rolling in the sky, feels more striking and iconic to me for some reason.

It wouldn't have been bad if they had just taken out the toilet flushing sound effects.

I still think it was the best, most inadvertent commentary AS THE WORLD TURNS ever made on itself.
