GH: Discussion for the Month of January

I like Dante away from Lulu too, though I like the writing for them as a couple. Lulu has definitely turned into a shrew.

Finola did great today as always. I really hate we aren't seeing Holly with Robert. Ugh. Emma Samms couldn't be brought back for one episode? Even taped and then inserted?

[sarcasm]Yay. Luke is back[/sarcasm]. Sigh. I love how everyone was so worried about him yet never really mentioned him this entire time. Anna just shrugged it off that Luke was captive in Turkey.

Jar Jar Binks and Maxie ... blah.

Why are they giving a non-entity like Ellie (who I do like) this big storyline of being paralyzed? They couldn't have made Trey parapalgeic and kept him and given Ellie something else to do.

I liked Trey (although Erik Valdez was lol-worthy when he attempted to faint with that head injury) and was sorry to see him go. Even more sorry that this Kawny crap keeps continuing.

EDIT: I really liked Laura Wright and Roger Howarth today.

Sam/John ... zzzz. I can't even attempt to take them seriously when we have the writing telling us he is the sign Jason sent Sam. Seriously. GMAFB. LOL. At least let this play out naturally.

Carly and Todd: the feels

My poor Ellie :(

Gah the Duke & Anna stuff is hard, I understand Anna's pulling away cause of the Faison stuff, but it still hurts :(

I looooovvveee that Holly was mentioned to be with Robert even if we don't see her onscreen. Hopefully she returns soon

I dont see why any of them would want anything to do with that awful bitch Holly after all the sh-t she's pulled, especially Anna. Its too bad we didnt see them coming face to face for the first time, bc Holly deserved to be chewed out by her. If Robert was awake, Id have wanted him to tell her to get lost.

Oh spare me. Holly didn't bitch out Anna for framing her, landing her in jail, stalking her husband or for being a fake-scar wearing traitorous double agent. And that wasn't even under Guza's writing. I swear some Anna fans forget than Anna's actions have been far worse than Holly's. Anna didn't chew out Holly because she knows she's done far worse than Holly. Plus Anna knows Robert loves Holly.

It is most unwise to continue to show the flashback of Patty and Sabrina about to kiss on NYE because Patty looks like a perv. She looked about 15! Can't stand that rat faced heifer! What a cliche! Get her, Brit!

Lulu! I reiterate - what a selfish stupid shrew! Luke tells this fool he's in jail, and this was the perfect opportunity to tell him that Maxie is knocked up? What?! And Luke is going to be so happy to be a grandfather again? What show is Lulu watching?

Spin? There are just no words, and the only consolation I have is that so many of you share my feelings on this fugly ass thing. This story is so wrong for that creature. There are no words! Who's BA blowing? Get Ellie away from Kermit, please!

When did they find Duke?

No Starr! YAY!

No Kawny! YAY!

No Johnny's filthy shirt! YAY!

Tarly! They are going to be the death of me! The absolute death of me! Those were some exceptional scenes today! Wow! I never thought I'd ship another couple, especially a FRon couple, but damn! LW and Roger are amazing together! Just wow!

    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
    • I tend to think that Chad will actually listen to Jen (this time). And that will be the next stumbling block in their relationship, which will open the possibilities for Cat to seek another member of their love triangle... To iterate my earlier thought, I am also not a fan of the person Melissa Reeves, but the character of Jennifer looks so chic this week, especially in comparison to Hope (and Gabi).  That blunt haircut is a winner.
    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. Their connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters. All this talk of Jennifer being in the wrong regarding Cat is absurd. Jennifer is not being villainized in any way, shape, or form, she's just being allowed to actually be human, which adds odds to the obstacle of Chad and Cat eventually getting together. All inner conflict. Keep it coming!
    • Hahaha. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
    • My hunch is what you've described. JFP is likely back working on transitioning the show to a new studio and embracing new technology for its production model.
