HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

Best guess, if SL signs any kind of deal with PP, it will involve a sitcom development starring SL.

Not sure that they can do a development deal considering she's locked in with Devious Maids, and that's a contract role. Hopefully, Marc Cherry and ABC Studios will let her moonlight and do All My Children 2.0. Plus, Susan starts shooting new episodes of Deadly Affairs in the spring.

She did pay attention to the Bell soaps. In All Her Children, Dan Wakefield the novelist who wrote the book when he became a big fan, visits the Nixons (this would have been around '74/'75) and mentions how one of Nixon's daughters says at dinner how another soap (that Wakefield refuses to mention in his book) that her and her mom have been watching seems to be ripping off a story of hers (I *think* it's the on screen plastic surgery to attract a younger man story). Agnes comes to the defence and says that she's worked with that author--since they both worked with Irna Phillips--and that he tells his stories very differently, and very intelligently so it's not a rip off--and then it goes into some about how "he" (obviously Bell) is more interested in darker psychological stories, a slower pace, and no humour, so they are different that way. Of course this may have all been made up or changed for the book, but...

It's been so long since I've seen an All Her Children reference from Eric!

Of course having Susan on board is ideal, but they can always say that Erica is off doing something glamorous (we already have the film career stuff established) and they can work her in when it's convenient for Susan. If that means making a splashy return at the end of the first book teasing her next big storyline for book two, we can live with that.

I am fine with having telenovela-style, shorter self-contained arcs, and with the possible alternating between AMC and OLTL, but please I hope they aren't called "books" like PC. That was so corny, and it is not intuitive.

Just branding the mini-seasons with a name, without calling them "books," would be fine (like Degrassi: The Boiling Point).

Some suggestions...

All My Chldren: The Great and the Least

All My Children: In Tragedy and Triumph

All My Children: The Rich and the Poor

One Life to Live: No Second Chances

One Life to Live: One Turn Around

One Life to Live: Rainbow's End

Those are all good, SFK.

Here's some that are bad ideas and I hope never happen.

All My Children: Proteus Revisited

All My Children: I Love Lavery

All My Children: Grandma Boring's Back

Agreed. It does seem right up her alley.

Also, I don't think we need to name the arcs, LOL. They can just do "seasons" of each soap and leave it at that.

I'd be ok with telenovela style, however, it would be hard for the show to drop a storyline if it completely sucked. There are a few characters that I don't care for, and if the entire " book" focused on them, I wouldn't watch.

Goodness, how drunk were you folks last night? wink.png

I'm still trying not to get my hopes up but I love the thought of seeing my Hubbards again. I'm not thrilled at the prospect (no pun intended) of Jesse and Tad filling a half hour of show whining about the Epic Evils of the Epically Evil Dr. Evil. But now that it looks like I may get more of David/Angie, I hope that they sign Jamie Luner so I can watch Liza and Jesse do their thing. I liked the vibe between them during the babyswitch story.

This whole thing is still impossible for me to believe. I guess that's true for everyone. If it does happen, then I think Debbi Morgan is the #1 person they should have approached, because I don't think anyone else fits into the role of matriarch or town conscience as well as she did by the end. So I'm glad they seem to be trying to work out something with her.

There are a lot of people I'd like to see that I know we won't be seeing if this gets off the ground, but I'll take what I can get.

ITA. I'm also glad they signed her because other than Lucci, I think Debbi has the most recognition in the mainstream.
