HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

Still, the people they have signed are in family units and work together, so it's not just a random collection of characters. There is logic there. David and Cara have a baby together, the Castillos are a family; the Hubbards are a family; and the Castillos, Angie, and David are all doctors. Opal can float between all these characters to listen, give advice, and be comic relief or quirky, even if she is not needed as the tentpole for any Kanes, Cortlandts, or any of Tad's kids. The odd one out right now is Zach, but he was working with the Castillos toward the end of the show and he can probably fuflfill some kind of hero role. I'm sure there will be more signings though.

Exactly. I don't understand why people are saying the AMC cast is weak. We've got good actors and characters who have legitimate ties to each other. They just need to build the younger set - whether with originals or recasts - and I'm sure we'll be hearing about that soon enough.

SOURCE: "Jeff Kwatinetz Wants The New All My Children and One Life to Live to be Edgy"

Ugh So Destiny will be the resident ho?

They wouldn't dare give a storyline like this to Dani or Starr.

Honestly what will be left of Destiny's character after this story? Where could they possibly go with her other than her losing Drew and getting written off?

I'm so disappointed that THIS is what PP had in mind for her character. I rather they stayed like ABC and kept minorities as window dressing. Bringing black characters on and having them play prostitutes and drug addicts is not riveting television. It's played out.

Alicia Minshew was good at first, but she never grew into much of an actor. She was just irritating by the end. I'd love them to recast Kendall with a name actress who along with either Bianca can keep the Kane's going while Susan Lucci is busy. I know many are worried about AMC's cast, but I think it's perfect so far. The actors they *do* have are heavy hitters and most of them are versatile and more "stars" than just soap actors IMO. I'd add Kendall (recast), Bianca, Tad and Dixie and cast several new characters and call it a day. For Bianca they could have Marissa around, but I'd consider dumping her so they don't have to worry with Krystal.

IF they can get Susan Lucci, great (and add a love interest and possible rivals for her), otherwise I think the show is almost where it needs to be.

ITA. Kendall & Bianca can both be recast if the last actresses aren't available or willing to return. At least having them around gives Susan Lucci the opportunity to make guest appearances if her schedule doesn't allow her to come back full time. I'd also like to see Tad & Dixie added, and then whatever younger characters the writers want can be played by newcomers (with theatre backgrounds hopefully).

I think when she's worked with she does good work, or good-ish, especially in terms of pacing and momentum, which was an issue with AMC in most of its last years, to me.

I will grant you that McTavish kept the stories moving, even if they were mainly sh-t. I see her as similar to Ron C in that respect. I hope they don't go anywhere near her because she does need to be worked with either by Agnes or a strong producer, imo.

I am LOVING this

OMG OMG OMG!!! I love this!!

No more Back from the deads!!!!!!

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I want more details about what stories and which characters they're using first. I'd feel better if we knew who the AMC writing staff will be!

We don't know the full story. That was only a glimps! More than likely their will be a good outcome. I doubt they are choosing her because she is black besides look at the white women who were subject to this kind of story such as Karen Wolek and Donna Tyler. If they chose this story for Destiny do to her ethnicity that would be a terrible business choice besides there is no real proof that what you are saying is true.

Prejudging PP by saying they are going to have all black people as low life is Prejudice.

Prejudge=Prejudice

I (hope) think that Destiny will be a reporter doing a story, sounds more logical.

I agree. Destiny could be working undercover.

While it's definitely hard to imagine sweet, sassy Des in such a gamey story arc (Maybe that's why they're reportedly looking for an older actress for the part baby-faced Shenell Edmonds originated?), the original One Life to Live told plenty of controversial tales. Creator Agnes Nixon launched the sudser in the turbulent, racially-charged late 60's with a saga about a light-skinned black woman passing for white — while dating both a black man and a white one. Two years later, Nixon's All My Children began with a character staunchly opposed to the Vietnam War.

On the one hand, I'm down with stories that steer away from cliche and deal instead with contemporary issues. But on the other hand, I don't want controversy for the sake of controversy, if you know what I mean.

Yeah. AMC has a lot of viable options if they just look for them.

Mark and Julie are high up on my list. Petey should be recast. Jamie should be recast. Even, IMO, Chuck can be viable. Charlie can be viable. Colby is recastable. Trent Garrett and Asher weren't that bad, he can come back.

Didn't Robin Christoper expressinterest? Um, bring Skye back! Even if it is recurring (I don't know if she wants a contract).

Bring back one of the Bianca's, Madison/Scott, hopefully get MEK and CmC (though to be quite honest, I'd be OK if they weren't signed on). Get Julia Barr, David Canary, Jennifer Bassey, Lee Meriwether and Ray McDonnell to recur and you can have a show.

Yes bring Skye back where she belongs :D

I love most of your idead--but I don't think we'd get David or especially Ray more than a few times a year...

Time to bring back the boarding house. She would flourish in the Myrtle role.

Yes as I and others have said over and over. This just seems such a no brainer. You can't afford many sets? So much can play at the boarding house. Young characters and new characters can stay there and have a natrual place to interact (and Opal in the Myrtle role give advice), etc. I truly think Opal should serve that function on the new AMC--I mean the Myrtle function, that soaps used to always have but have largely lost.

I don't mind their going for edgier stories, and it's true that sites like that are definitely topical now. And I think tackling these kind of current stories is important. What I do potentially have a problem with is another young black woman being thrust into this story, particularly Destiny, who has a very particular character and who should have no reason to want for money.

I'll reserve judgment until I see how the story plays or if these shows even happen, but they're coming at me from a disadvantage.

Well, no, probably not but they would technically be recurring. If they are even asked.
