HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

OLTL had a wide variety of male leads, many strong, complex men. The women were strong too, which is what made the show different. This seems to be especially true starting in the late 70s, when Marco, Brad, and the Buchanans came in.

The only change was that after the noble rapist came in, the women began to be torn down (not just because of him, for many, many reasons), and this never stopped.

OLTL went from a show where Karen Wolek told the world that she deserved respect and love to a show where viewers were invited to get hot over a man drugging and mounting his own daughter.

Ok. I hated that stuff. But it was never presented as something to squeeeeeee over. And I loathe Ron and think he's the second worst thing that ever happened to OLTL. His salacious view of incest and rape disgusts me. But I can't accuse him of presenting it as something people are supposed to find romantic.

I agree that it wasn't supposed to be seen as romantic. I saw it as someone's idea of trashy torture porn, nasty stuff. But no one wants to hear me go on and on about dead horses, so I will agree to disagree on that topic.

Cady makes it pretty darn official that she's in:

I hope so. With the proper writing I think she's one of the best soap actresses.

Oh yay. We're back to trying to figure out whether or not Ron meant one of his many rape stories to be funny or sexy.

It must be Thursday.

WIN!

I'm actually on the fence about how much of that was Frons' influence, since he hasn't done anything anywhere near as revolting on GH as of yet, and they're the ORIGINATORS of the "rapemance" concept.

I'm sure there's still time for them to prove me wrong though :\

Which reminds me... Aren't we overdue for another 2006 debate in the GH thread?

Well, shades of it are over at GH. Konnie raping herself and becoming the Comedic Whore of Port Charles, trying to sexually assault anything with a penis. Joe the rapist being the lovestruck hero that saved Tracy's life. So, yeah... rape is still being treated as a fun and exciting color to add to characters over there as well.

Ron was way to defensive and trying to sell rapemance way to hard to blame that one on Frons, imo.

Right--and then doing the same about the Jessica/Ford retcon.

I hope PP rekindles Viki and Dorian's rivalry.

I hope not. I think both characters had grown past that and they shouldnt be thrown back as rivals for nostalgic sake. I dont think it really fits them today and hasnt in years.

I hope PP rekindles Viki and Dorian's rivalry.

like in this clip when Viki goes hard in the paint

Thank you. I'm good with the two women not liking each other. The" I'm now your best friend" did not ring true in the least for me. I have no idea why Viki and Dorian were suddenly besties except the writer wanted it and it's probably easier to write. I liked the" sometimes friends (because we're stuck here) but I really dislike you, OK but I respect you" relationship. I think capable writers who understand women can make it intriguing. Both characters suffered from being written immaturely and trivalizing feelings built over years that made them dislike each other. I've seen too much over the years by BOTH parties, that make it unbelievable that they would be friends.

In the clip, isn't Viki exposed for having an affair with Sloan?

The problem with the rivalry was that it had become shockingly immature and silly, especially Viki's reactions. If they are rivals I would much rather see maturity and respect, mixed with some tension.
