Keeping up with the morbid dead actor/character theme (since Halloween is coming), what situations have there been where an actor passed away but the character was not immediately killed off nor replaced?

I'm thinking of something like the death of AMC's Louis Edmonds...Langley Wallingford was referred to for a long time after that as being forever on expedition or whatever. Or Michael Zaslow's David Renaldi on OLTL, whose death I don't think was ever addressed at the time, he just sort of faded off into forgottenville unless there was some throwaway reference much later that I totally missed.

Sally Spectra is still alive somewhere in the world on B&B, and we know Darlene Conley died in 2006.

Stella Fields on GH. When Jeff Donnell died, she won the lottery & quit her job as the Quartermaines' maid.

Didn't it take them several months to address Bert Bauer's death after Charita Bauer's passing?

Amy Vinining on GH. Given, Amy disappeared before Shell died, but there hasn't been any mention of her since Shell's death.

Jim Craig on OLTL. After Nat Polen's death,I think Jim was referred to as wife Anna was still on the show. Then Anna was droppped and the Craigs were no longer a part of Llanview.

I wish they had done this for ANOTHER WORLD's Wallingford. I hated the thought of that special man not being alive somewhere in the world.

Didn't GH's Ruby linger offscreen for nearly a year after Norma Connoly died? I remember knowing the actress had passed, but it took GH forever to acknowledge it.

Norma Connolly died November 18, 1998. Ruby died in the January 28, 1999 episode.

Oops! I guess it seemed longer in my mind. That was pretty timely. Maybe I am thinking about her being offscreen for an extended period of time when NC was unavailable.

I don't think it was acknowledged until 1986 and she died, in 85, right?

I have no problem with this decision. I liked the fact that they gave "Sally" a happy ending. Far better than a recast or a death.

On ATWT Ethel Remey ,who played Alma,Lisa's mother was in ill health I believe around 77.Clarice Blackburn filled in and then Alma just disappeared.Ethel passed away soon after.

Roger Thorpe left Springfield in fall 1997. Michael Zaslow passed away a few years later (I know he wasn't playing Roger at the end, but he was the only true Roger). Roger remained alive until 2003 or so.
