Y&R: TV Guide interview with Jill Farren Phelps

Ana Lee? They kept her on the PR for as long as they possibly could even though AL was not being used. In the end, she couldn't even hold her head up. Then her son wants to talk chit? It's up to him to make certain she is cared for in her final years, NOT GH!

Anna lee was promised by the prior regime shed have a job for life. It's not like they were using her a ton. What was she on maybe once every 2 months? I'm sure it really saved them a ton of cash firing her.

Jill needed that extra budget, so Anna Lee's old immobile ass had to go. LOL!

Seriously though, in no business are you guaranteed a "lifetime contract." GH wasn't using and would likely never again due to her poor health, what was left in it for them? It's just business. Not that it means much, she was dropped to recurring, not killed off while Anna was still alive.

It's not like Jill had an intern wheel Anna out to her senior citizen bus and tell her she had just worked her last day....

What a great interview by Michael Logan, asked pointed questions. I like Jill's answers for most of them, but I need to see it in action before I'm willing to trust her.

Anna Lee :( It did her in being fired from GH

Didn't JFP also give an interview to Logan in 2001 when she joined GH, saying she had her daughter Courtney watch the show for a few weeks before she joined, and Courtney found it, "boring as hell."?

Does anyone else remember this, or am I imagining it?

It sure didn't get any less boring with her in charge and bringing in one of THE worst Kevin Buchanan recasts ever. To go from Kevin Stapleton to that was enough she should have had her ass canned

My post was in regards to GH, not OLTL. tongue.png

Does anyone remember that interview from 2001 when she had recently joined the show?

For all we know she could have ;) She did let an intern bring JZ's things to her.

She is the one who told Jackie "no one wants to see old people kiss" as well

But, dragonflies, she loves people over 40! Why, some of her best friends happen to be Black gay over 40!

Audiences want quality drama. They are too smart to be fooled by really young pretty people they don't care about. Even teenagers are going, "Why am I supposed to care about this?"

Is this a dig at Y&R's current, anemic younger cast, perhaps?

I love how she confesses to killing like Maureen Bower but denies Frankie Frame like she's tried for murder and these were real people that were killed. Only in soaps. laugh.png

I don't deny she has some ageist tendencies, but Jill broke the news to Jackie that she was being dropped to recurring.

It's not up to her to gather Jackie's stuff and bring it to her personally, no EP does that.

Great, candid interview. Not really sure I believe Genie is safe, but who knows.

I don't understand why anyone cares if Genie is safe. Genevieve is not a core Y&R character and JFP would be more than justified in dumping her. Maybe she'll be lucky enough to do it in a PC way, aka "trade" her to GH. ;)

As a lifelong fan of OLTL, I have to say that I really enjoyed her stint on the show. I guess I am one of the few, LOL! Every Rappaport she brought in served the longtime characters like Viki, Jessica, Nora, Bo, Asa, Renee, Max, Blair, etc. quite well in terms of story quantity. The quality of those stories can be debated, but from what I recall of that period, JFP served the OLTL vets extremely well.

You're not alone. I completely agree and wish ABC would have just left her there. The only problem I had was with the Robin Strasser friction, but Strasser's not exactly a shrinking violet herself. Either way, I enjoyed that period as well and the vets were thriving then. Sure, she brought in her newbies and some recasts. But most of those characters were brought on to create story for the core characters so I wasn't bothered by them as much (i.e. the Rappaports).
