Y&R: Another Casting Call

Was Davetta better than Christel? Yes. But that doesn't mean I thought she was great on her own OR that I want her back.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I'm not talking about that, you said Davetta didn't want to be there. I remember the only person that took up for Davetta treatment was BJ. While KSJ wasn't saying anything until a lot of viewers was getting on CK big mouth. Then he try to contact Davetta again. I'm sure Davetta didn't trust him after that. That's why I will always respect BJ because he became the real mini Dru after Davetta left.

Actually, I was referring to y&r_fan, who said Davetta acted like she didn't want to be there. But I apologize for the confusion. :)

By the end of her stint she looked like she didn't want to be there.

If your co-workers were treating you horribly at your job you might not be comfortable at work either.

And clearly whatever was an issue with Rowell was an issue even years later with the show, as they fired CK almost immediately after a regime change and have supposedly been trying to fire her for several years.

I just don't care. I want to see Dru again, if the writing is there for the character. Y&R has so many actors who sound off, and maybe she named names and some don't, but this is a show where people named names on two leading men having a brawl backstage. If they can get over a fist to the face then surely they can get over any issues with her, especially if it helps bring back any of the viewers who tuned out.

Dru's one of the best and more original characters Y&R ever made, and the show was never the same without her.

EXACTLY Carl.

But this is the same show where Kristoff was almost fired for mildly doing the same thing his co-stars do constantly (criticizing the writing).

That's true, DeeeDee. And it is unfortunate how DS was treated by many of her co-workers, too. As I've said, though, I'm not one who was so mightily impressed with her stint. She was (and is) better than CK, but (IMO) that is really, really, REALLY not saying much.

And that's fine.

But let's not act like Davetta was working under ideal circumstances either.

There was a reason Y&R waited until Vicki wasn't on set to fire her.

On the subject of Victoria begging for her job back, I've never seen that as the case. Her first two books were actual successes and she toured those books for a LONG time. You wouldn't tour as long as she did if people weren't interested. She was appearing on The View and Wendy Williams as well to promote. Then she got married and has been travelling endlessly. She didn't start actively pursuing acting jobs until this year and since she started she's had huge success. Movies, guest starring roles on Lets Get Together, plus a recurring role on Single Ladies. She also recently had a second callback for a role in the Hunger Games sequel. She's hardly sitting at home and waiting for Y&R to come calling. I think she would return to Y&R if it worked out, but if it doesn't she doesn't care. She's not a soap star who depends on soaps, she can easily have a primetime/film career. She left that behind FOR Y&R.

Right now she's getting back into the swing of things, but I say give it another year and she's going to land a major role whether it be on primetime or film.

Smith got rid of almost all of the recurring supporting characters that used to make the show unique.

Though more damage came afterwards, Smith definitely got the ball rolling on some of the major destruction to happen to this show.

You can thank Jack Smith for getting rid of Veronica.

If I had one wish, it would be for them to bring back all the supporting characters like Mamie,Lynne,Gina,Mary and Miguel but I guess Jack Smith really screwed them all over.

Smith was to Y&R what McTavish was to AMC.

That's something Alden never gets credit for.

Fans these days constantly complain about how Y&R's cast is "too big" & actors should be fired but Alden utilized EVERYBODY.

As with any other headwriter she had her favorites but the last time the show had any real balance was during her stint.

I may be wrong but it seemed like Alden used those characters more than Bill did, (Not that Bill forgot about them)

Didn't Patty Weaver and Tony Pena go on contract while she was HW?
