FV was EP during the Santi storyline, but was not heavily involved in the creative end at that time. It was Michael Malone coupled with Frons's micromanagement, but the Santi story - Antonio the lost prince of the streets, Tico the elegant bad seed - was pure baroque Malonian excess. It was him through and through, the worst of his literary mind.

Maggie's death in the pool was the first in a string of extremely violent deaths in prime-time I believe. Dallas went further with April's death but I believe Knots Landing topped both of them with Linda Fairgate's murder. Oh yeah Scott's gruesome death on 90210 is something I never like watching.

I also wanted to add any time a woman rapes a man on a soap and it's praised as comedy. I will never forget the high praise the soap press gave ATWT for taking a "comic" route with Julia drugging, tying up, forcing Jack to take Viagra, and raping him.

The entire Julia madness story, which was praised to the skies as hilarious and fun, was horrifying. As was Annie Parisse's "acting" in general.

How could I forget this. Donna Ludlow, child of rape, rejected by her birth mother after scheming to meet her, slowly descends into prostitution and heroin addiction. After a final rejection from her mother, Donna has an overdose in the home of Dot Cotton, the only person who took pity on her.

Warning - this is a graphic scene.

Is it that you wouldn't count Dot as appearing in Pauline's death? She's the one that found her face first in the snow. And with Joe, he fell to his death after a struggle with Dot & Jim. Or that you don't consider them great EastEnders death scenes? Joe's wasn't great, but Pauline's set the standard for holiday deaths on soap operas.
