This article is hogwash and clearly and bought-and-paid-up hachet job. However, it doesn't make me any less nervous about JFP's arrival and Sony's true intentions with regards to "Y&R."

This article is written by Tommy Garrett...an absolute moron who wrote a ridiculous blog in Beverly Hills called 'Canyon News' that was about as incoherent as a seven year old's diary entry.

Garrett is a publicist and his website reflects that. If he isn't being paid by MAB, he's certainly kissing her 'Bel-Air based' ass.

+1. My mom and grandma watched Y&R since the beginning and neither of them would budge one bit if they shifted focus to younger characters, but like has been said the writing and acting needs to be on point. Y&R's younger characters suck. Adam is disgusting, Chelsea and Chloe are boring, Abby and Daniel are annoying, Kevin is still a rapist in my eyes, ugh they all suck.

A soap opera with a 12:30pm timeslot chasing a teen demo seems misguided, desperate, and altogether unnecessary. It's not the teens who are watching, and it's not the teens who will ever be watching, so these soap execs just need to let that [!@#$%^&*] go. Teen summer storylines are one thing. Plus, there's a difference between viewers who are middle aged and beyond enjoying the drama of attractive twentysomethings, but true *teen* storylines are a niche. Unless you're cranking out some Jesse/Angie/Greg/Jenny type stuff, you're not going to draw in your core audience, which is important no matter how much they'd like to ignore that fact. Vapid model-come-actors in weak storylines aren't going to cut it. Most of us who started watching the stories as children or young adults inherited them from older relatives. If no one's older relatives are even watching soaps anymore because their viewership has been discounted and they've been alienated by their own beloved shows, then the torch won't get passed.

Y&R does not air at 12:30 pm everywhere and on a show called the Young & Restless you need some younger restless people. Nikki/Victor/Jack has gotten so tired even my mother is bored by them. They don't need to break out teen storylines but they need to develop the 20 yr olds and do some recasting and better writing. They need to try and attract new viewers somehow and it won't be with the same thing we've been watchnig over and over again.

Sony and CBS NEVER learn! JFP jumps at the chance to helm this show to redeem her unredeemable reputation as a soap killer. It's all about Jill, not about the show or the fans. Go ahead, Sony, put the newbies on every day, alienate your longtime viewers, and watch this show get canceled just that much faster. They already acknowledge that JG isn't a strong head writer. How many different ways do you have to say it: daytime is about strong storytelling!!! There are only few strong head writers left, Claire Labine among them. She would have been a perfect fit for this show and could have turned it around. But no, Steve Kent puts his friends (JFP and JG) into the top spots, which would be fine IF THEY DIDN'T HAVE QUESTIONABLE TRACK RECORDS (which is putting it kindly). This is just obscene. Viewers want to see Nikki and Kay and Paul and Jack. Viewers, including younger viewers, love Jeanne Cooper. If Sony is going to nickel and dime this show to death, then pull the plug now. Don't let fans watch what happened to AMC and OLTL, GL and ATWT when network and production company suits KILLED perfectly viable soaps because they didn't know how to make them relevant. HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS was lame. The acting, writing production, all of it. If that's what Sony wants to turn this show into, pity the poor Y&R fans.

This is the same crap networks have been spewing for years to justify bringing in newbie actors who CAN'T ACT, all in the name of younger demos. Guess what? It never works. Viewers watch when stories are compelling, whether told with older or younger characters. PERIOD.

You are TOTALLY on the money here! Well said. Too bad you don't have Steve Kent's job.

The article may be biased, but I guarantee this is the path they're heading down.
