Members gtru1981
I think that ship has sailed as well. Not even a A-Hollywood actress like Jennifer Aniston if she guested star on Days would help. Super couples are a thing of the 80s and 90s. Daytime is just done! Nothing can save it, just they should try to keep the very small amount of fans and viewers to keep supporting it.
Members DRW50
Soaps haven't known how to create supercouples in years. If they did, people might watch.

Members Cheap21
Frankly I think supercouples are an outdated concept and dont think shows need to focus on that
Members JaneAusten
ITA. Super couples actually became a cancer in a way because you can never break them up without killing one half off.
Members DRW50
It depends on the idea of a supercouple. To me a supercouple is a very popular couple who get attention. It doesn't have to mean a couple who constantly have to have story together for 30 years.
Members Cheap21
In that case then daytime has never stopped creating super couples. NBC and their soaps have been the most blatant about it. I hate it. It leads to predictable writing bc no matter what any separation is only temporary and it makes it hard to invest in other pairings when you know they are nothing but a roadblock to prop up the inevitable supercooled reunion. People break up and they move on but this super couple mentality tends to hold characters back and doesn't allow them to grow and progress. It tends to come across more like one character is held hostage by the other so to speak
Members Gray Bunny
Yes, the music during that time period was the best! Now THAT is the stuff I'd like to have on a 2-disc soundtrack! It started getting hokey pokey in 1997 and was full-steam in 1998 (see: Swamp Girl music, with the woman shrieking). Nowadays, it's just blah and uninspiring. Members DRW50
They've stopped creating big couples who get a big following. Instead you have schizophrenic writing and manipulative trash which is more about playing games than selling a couple. For instance, if you watch DAYS, you have no idea if Sami loves EJ, Lucas, or Rafe. You have no idea if EJ loves Sami, or Nicole. You have no idea if Nicole loves EJ, Rafe, or Daniel. DAYS is written as an orgy waiting to happen. Not as romance.
Members Cheap21
None of those pairings are super couples. I dont think there's any mentally that either man is Sami's one true pairing that she will always be with no matter what and frankly thats how it should be. Members DRW50
That's part of the problem. These couples are all over the place and it just goes on and on. Sami's stories have been a mess for years because of this going back and forth over which man she should be with. They should either find one solid pairing for her or just putting the main focus on her love life.
Members JaneAusten
I don't think the show believes keeping a couple committed keeps them fresh. The problem with Days is their couple merry go rounds aren't interesting either. I do think in some ways Sami and Rafe worked the problem became keeping EJ in their universe vs creating something unique to them.
Members ChitHappens
I agree! TIIC have forgotten that couples and the stories surrounding them is what drove the soaps. LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON is gone and filth has replaced it. Unfortunately, too much of the audience is easily sold on chemistry and the hacks are loving this gift bestowed upon them. This is one of the reasons they aim for young viewers. They don't ask for much. Back in the day, writers put their heart and souls into couples, and if they split, the fight to get back together would be as good! Todays musical sex partners is pathetic! No one is telling love stories anymore.
