GH: Discussion for the Month of June

I have a feeling no one at GH or ABC was all that interested in bringing Lucy back. Older female = death to them.

We just see things differently. GH has always been my favorite soap even though there were things on it that I really didn't like such as Luke and Laura together. If I really had to go back and pick exactly when GH became less interesting for me it would actually be around 1996/1997, whenever Brenda's mother showed up as part of the story line written tor Vanessa Marcil's departure. My favorite GH scene ever was when Jax and Sonny emerged from the warehouse fire and Brenda ran right by Sonny into Jax's arms. I could have stopped watching after that since there was no happily ever after for Brenda and Jax. Once they wrote Brenda's breakdown over Sonny there was never going to be a chance of my ever being able to watch the two of them together again. I don't really care whether Jason and Elizabeth just remained friends or if they had a romantic relationship. Since they went down that road with them by giving them Jake then they should have played that relationship out to a better ending. The awful writing in regards to them put me off more than had they agreed from the beginning to keep Jake's paternity a secret and left it at that. Elizabeth was probably the one redemptive thing about Jason for me because even though I was never a fan of Jason and Robin and how she was used to make a criminal more acceptable, I disliked how Carly was used for the destruction of that relationship and how Jason treated Robin. The irony is that in terms of characterization, bad girl turned good Elizabeth made more sense as the type to support Jason's lifestyle than Robin did.

Nobody can make me interested in Sam's character unless an actress with some life in her came along to play her. Kelly Monaco is uninspiring to me. She was a drag on the little bit of Port Charles I watched. She was a drag in that Hallmark movie opposite Rob Estes. I watched thinking that maybe the problem I had with her acting was the horrible writing for her on GH and I know Hallmark isn't the greatest but she did have something with which to work and her character could easily have been sympathetic since she was dumped by her fiance. Unfortunately, she managed to make the idea of the man chasing a ghost more interesting.

ITA about the potential for Elizabeth's character. They could have done a whloe lot more with her than they did and now she's the rah rah girl for the super boring.

I've been rather upfront about Brenda being my favorite character (as well as the reason why I sat through a Guzafied GH for as long as I did), so while I did and do prefer her with Sonny over Jax, I can't truly complain about her last year or two being less than stellar (writing-wise). I quite enjoyed the return of her mother, as I got another piece to the puzzle of one of GH's best female characters. While it led to her tragic 'death', part of the reason why I was able to soldier without Brenda was because of the other great stories that were going on at the time.

I was never a fan of Liz and the roided goiter (or, well, any woman with him post-accident, as I believe that they could have and can do a lot better) because I found that the beginning of them equaled the end of what made her such a vibrant character to me in the first place (her snarky wit and endearing insecurity). The destruction of the Liz Webber character, IMO, rests solely on the shoulders of Bob Guza, as he preferred to ruin her character to prop the roided goiter.

The less I say about the Slagbeast's lies being the catalyst for driving Robin out of the very town that she called her home, the better.

I will admit that I have a soft spot for Kelly Monaco because of my enduring love for Livvie Locke, who was everything that Sam isn't. Had I not had prior experience in watching her on Port Charles, I'd have written her off, too. As it stands, her onscreen reunion with Michael Easton is why I care about her GH character (and, if I'm honest, his OLTL character) since...well, ever.

It's not a lie. It's an opinion. And you stating your opinion as FACT over and over again doesn't change that it's just your opinion too.

No, it's a lie. A lie that anyone can utter as much as I can dispute it.

And yet, in the almost ten years since this decision was made, Guza couldn't have written her back in to the canvas? Not buying it at all.

And? That doesnt erase the fact that he he didnt get rid of her. Considernig some of the crap he hurled at other vets, maybe its for the best her character wasnt ruined under his pen anyway

I don't mean cute as in a pin-up, I mean just the average young lady. She looks like a normal person, no fillers, no colagen, no Botox, no nose job, no implants. When she is styled normally I think she looks nice enough, and approachable, and I think that's why Starr developed something of a following on OLTL when they started pushing the Starr/Cole stuff. I don't see the need for the trashy hair and makeup and clothes.

I honestly don't have a dog in the KA ugly or cute debate, but I will agree with you about wardrobe's insistence (on both OLTL and GH) in styling her as a bootleg Jessica Simpson instead of dressing her as the regular J. Crew chick that she is meant to be.

Considernig some of the crap he hurled at other vets, maybe its for the best her character wasnt ruined under his pen anyway

This is the only thing that I'll agree with you about.

Why would he have written her back in when he wrote out every single character she ever interacted with?

I didn't know that he'd written out Luke Spencer

Because there was no story for her or because Guza thought that she wasn't valuable enough to write for on her original soap? I believe it to be the latter.

And yet, in the almost ten years since this decision was made, Guza couldn't have written her back in to the canvas? Not buying it at all.

I got lost in this argument. What's your point? That Guza is a hack who didn't bring back beloved vets and use them properly anymore than Ron Carlivati? Or that the character of Lucy Coe wasn't valued by Guza? Can't figure out who it is you're insulting.

I will admit that I have a soft spot for Kelly Monaco because of my enduring love for Livvie Locke, who was everything that Sam isn't. Nothing like harkening back to a long dead pairing on a short lived cancelled soap to determine preferences on GH. I feel better. I don't like them for the same reason you do like them. And more.

Not that it's a huge surprise, but Carly looks awful to say that Johnny raped Kate and to then take Johnny back about a month later. Once again rape is OK if the guy is hot.

You make a good point there, sir

1. *sigh*

I'm not looking forward to sitting through another round of Todd being shat in Ron's never-ending quest to keep Hater Yellgado on a pedestal that she doesn't deserve to be on.

2. I wished McBain kicked the roided goiter in the fvcking throat after he asked if he was "OK".

3. Like Friday's episode, the only highlight was seeing Heather and Todd mix it up.

Well you can look forward to more of Todd and Heather mixxing it up since they are now accomplices in baby stealing

I'm not sure how Tea is seen as a RC pet, he brought her to GH to kill off her last tie to the husband she thinks is dead...

Hey look its the two most talked about characters today with another lost soul. Oh man, that picture makes me wish they had done a Lucy/Scott/Bobbie triangle

I'm totally straight. But, Lynn Herring is a BABE!

Some people are convinced her baby will turn up alive. Regardless, she will clearly be reunited with Victor at some point on GH so she still has one in the 'win' column.

Todd shat on to prop Tea? Say what? Todd has been a deviant from the word go! There was no Tea when:

He raped Marty

He tried to rape Nora

He put Blair's child on the black market

...and all the other crimes he committed. We agree that Ron is a hack, but dont blame him for Todd.
