Friday's episode was one of the best produced and directed episode in YEARS! Wow!! I could tell from the first Marlena/Sami scene where the camera followed Marlena across the town square that this episode was going to be visually stunning. Loved the crane shots, the close ups, the fade transitions, the dark lighting, the shadows....the atmosphere was just superb. I especially loved the scenes where there was no background music - you just heard the rain falling outside. And of course there had to be opera music at the end when Stefano got shot. Perfection! Big kudos to Lisa De Cazotte, Greg Meng and director Steven Williford for producing such a memorable episode.

The only negative thing I will say is that it was so stupid how everyone picked up the gun! LOL

The person who is put on trial (if there is one) has to be Marlena. You can't lose having Marlena front and center in a storyline.

Not me. I hated crazy Caroline. Plus, there's no need for her to be in a major storyline. Caroline shooting Stefano would be more lame than Caroline switching the paternity results. LOL

Agree with all of the above. I loved the opera music. I thought it was a great episode. I also agree that everyone touching the gun was really bugging me!

My money's on Lexie as the killer. Who does everyone else think?

I enjoy it. Best in years? No. Especially when EJ seemed to transport from in front of the Brady Pub into Stefano's living room. I just hope this is not some long drawn out story that never ends.

Damn. That reminds me of someone.

EXCELLENT, AWESOME, SUPERB, Just damn AMAZING show today!!! Haven't seen a Friday like this in a long long time!! The chemistry between each Actor and Joe Mascolo was outstanding! Love how the more important characters had a lengthy visit with Stefano, while the others visits were seen via Flashback. The scenes with Hope made me wish Zack was still alive and he was actually Stefano's, as intended to be at one time, because so much more history could have been played there. Marlena was badass today, visit Stefano dressed as a diva and torn into his ass educationally after ripping Sami a new one!! I love Will scenes as he kicked the trash can about in sync with Bo running through the square. Kudos to the writers, directors, and producers for this great episode. The ending with they empty houses and office was awesome as the opera played through the scenes!! Monday where the hell are you?!?!?

You took the words right out of my mouth...stunning episode (where vision and sound were concerned)! I was so surprised by the overall feel of the show. The tracking shot of Marlena was interesting and really set the tone...LOVE that Steven Williford was the director. I noticed some similarities to the 5/18/09 (Who Shot Stuart) episode of AMC that he directed.

But the writing is absolutely ridic. Really, after all the awful things Stefano has done to these people over the years, his latest antics are what finally cause them to snap and come to his house one by one and try to kill him? I don't really buy it. The motives are lacking. The only person I really felt for & believe would kill him right now is Marlena. And maybe Abe & Kate

I was confused and annoyed by the inter-cutting, transporting, and how NO ONE ran into or saw each other at the mansion (or maybe that kind of stuff will be revealed later?).

My guess is Caroline did it in a sudden rage...the gun hidden at the pub was missing. LOL!!

But really, I think it might've been Lexie. But I'm hoping it was Marlena. I agree with Toups!

ETA: Marlena/Sami scenes are the best! LOL at Marlena's reaction to Sami when she said Will wasn't her priority! Also, the way Marlena said "Samantha Gene, you listen to me!"

What a fun episode. Some parts I didn't quite understand timewise, but the point was there. I guess my favorite part was the very end with the opera. As for the suspects, EJ is the most tiresome. He has been making these threats for so long and while it is understandable why Hope flinched, EJ just always backs down.

So who done it? I guess I will go with either Lexie or Ian. Lexie said she was upstairs sleeping but that was never confirmed, and Ian was out and about for no good reason when he said he would be at the office waiting for Kate. I didn't pay close enough attention to see whose raincoats matched the one at the murder, but I think the sleeve was blue. All in all, a really good episode and now I guess we need someone to be falsely accused of the crime and go on trial. Somehow I bet this becomes a Marlena-centric story, and I guess rightfully so considering her special place in all things Stefano.

Unless it is Tony, not dead after all!

    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
