Robert's first day scored 2.0 and his scene with Luke on the bridge performed well too.

However, the following week when OLTL characters ate GH, the ratings tanked and badly. The crossovers were a massive failure no matter what FV/RC spin.

It could be a PR stunt to spare Katie the wrath of GH fans. I really don't know.

This situation oreminds me of when Frons said they wanted to cancel OLTL but AMC numbers were so bad they cut both. IMO, ABC badly wants to cancel GH and revamp the Revolting. They are backed into another corner and might cancel both with staggered end dates. GH probably goes off second in January like OLTL did.

In my area DOOL & GH are stacked against each other still. They need to do something about that. BUT which network makes the sacrifice in programming? YR is just flat out dying a slow death. I just do not understand why Sony or CBS don't do something about it. MAB isn't going anywhere because of nepotism but you would think they would make her step up and be accountable in the very least. Also she needs to fire her two hacks Hogan Sheffer and Scott Hamner to show that she can remain at the helm of this once great show. It isn't the weather or any other thing. It is bad writing plain and simple.

Have you seen the offerings on daytime? They are horrendous. Judge shows, Jerry Springer shows, talk-your-head off shows over and over and over, doctor shows both psychological and otherwise...I'm unemployed and have been since the end of December and I have yet to have the TV on hardly at all during daytime. The lead in does hurt GH because I would do anything NOT to watch that nonsense and the garbage before it so by the time GH airs I have forgotten it and end up watching the DVR later on. I just don't get why they don't get talented people to pen these shows and bring back love in the afternoon but I honestly fear that it has gone so far that once people tune out it becomes a habit not to watch and it will take something spectacular to reel them back in.

Les Moonves has little interest or respect for soaps, and I think he's said as much. I think the Bells and Sony stopped caring about Y&R years ago and are happy to just ride it out to the end. MAB makes me sick. She still goes out, again and again, doing puff piece interviews about how wonderful her show is and how they know what viewers want. That is when she's not shilling for MOCA again.

Thank you! A 49 year old show should not have to rely on a good lead in or a lead in at all. People know GH exists and where to find it. The audience is simply not interested in the same crap day in and day out. The same fans not watching now miraculously found the show when the siamese twits were bragging about a 4 month ratings hike. Remember that?

Stop blaming a 2 1/2 month show because GH is garbage!

I wonder how many markets have the soaps up against each other now with the tiny number of soaps. In Seattle Y&R airs at 11 (Canada gets the next day's episode at 4), B&B at 12:30, Days is at 1 and GH at 2.

At any rate, I haven;'t bought the lead in thing for a while just because most viewers, nowadays and particularly in that 18-49 demo, *flip*. A lot. BUT I will admit that having the Rev as lead in does GH zero favours and probably causes some damage. I have paid little to no attention to The Chew and Rev, but when I have flipped past, I admit, as amateurish and headache inducing as The Chew is, the people at least seem to be having fun and I could get why a casual viewer would flip on it (particularly as they seem to have completely given up the original mission statement of emphasizing nutritious food). Revolution is just a boring, dour, horrible mess on every single level.

As for GH, while (questions of actual quality aside) I do find the RC/FV version MUCH MUCH more watchable (just in terms of pace, etc), I agree that one of the big mistakes is that people who have tuned out in the past few years, and might be tempted to tune in, still largely see a show centered around Sonny, Jason, etc. That's not going to bring people back.

You and your friends/household may enjoy it and I have found scenes and episodes that I have liked as well...but ultimately the ratings are terrible, nothing has improved and the show's talent budget has ballooned, there's no way it's costing less to produce than it did in September. Changes need to be made.

Y&R is in an even worse state because its losses are even greater. Y&R is lucky it built so many beautiful sets during the good old days when ratings were high and budgets were loose. Changes need to come to Y&R too, starting with firing Hamner and Sheffer.

Even though Y&R hit a new low, the fact of the matter is that it does not exist in a vacuum. Since its ratings are still far above those of the other soaps, there is zero danger of cancellation in the near future.

It makes absolutely no logical sense to hype up OLTL's "great" ratings (and trash ABC for cancelling it) while pissing on Y&R's superior performance. If you think that AMC and/or OLTL were far superior shows (last year) to what Y&R currently is, then just say so, but please don't hold Y&R to some ridiculous double standard when it comes to ratings.

I'm in a debate because there are many posters who think OLTL characters have brought GH high ratings & are saving the show...but I saw an initial increase but???

Thus far, are the ratings higher (demos) better since they came on board?

From what I've read here except for that bump I'm seeing they aren't that much better.

    • I'm anticipating most of the cast at the Nice location for a few weeks a la the Tuscan villa for Victoria and Ashland's wedding. I don't know why they bother. I'd rather see the money going into more regular home/office sets. This party has been a bust. No secrets revealed, break ups  etc. Ugly decorations and I'm going to slam the costuming again. Just the guests heaping praise on  Nikki  like she's achieved some magnificent milestone rather than just getting a year older.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
