This show looks like it shat out the 80s. It's kinda sad how soaps can't make new stars (as much as I love Debbi and Darnell).

Agreed but at the same time they do genuinely seem to be very close friends, so I'm sure neither is too upset. At this tage in the game I have little doubt both actors know they should take what soap work they can...

I think Debbi is doing the best with her material, but I also feel like the New york/ABC style of soap acting, particularly for long term vets, really fits current Y&R (that's probably more an insult towards current Y&R than anything else though.

Is it wrong for me to hope that Debbi & his character never cross paths.

You give the producers too much credit if you don't think that sooner rather than later they'll want to try to "recreate" the magic. No need to write story you have an insta couple who then can be safely backburnered...

They still haven't had Debbi in any scenes with Peter Bergman, though...
