Julia Pace Mitchell is terrible. She just can't act, and there's no way she can turn a horrible story into anything. The entire Sophia/Neil thing is an embarrassment. And yeah, her wardrobe is bad -- always looks like she's exploding out of her clothes, and her wedding dress looked like a New Year's eve shrink-wrap.

Lawd, yes. Between Harpo, er, Neil leaving her at the church (and making her feel oh-so-special later with those ridiculous, un-romantic "vows" of his) and Massa Tucker coming to her emotional rescue ("Don't be too mad at yo' babydaddy, Sofia, he a good nigga!"), I was ready to scream. Not even Papa Bell was that racist.

And that damn kerchief sure-as-hell didn't help!

Sadly those wedding scenes underscore how not needed Sophia is on the show, and how vibrant KSJ and Debbi are together. Honestly, if Pace went tomorrow and took Stephen Nichols, Daniel Goddard, Genie Francis with her, I really would struggle to recall their characters' names after a few days.

I think Pace Mitchell is just on the wrong show and is with the wrong cast members. Putting her with KSJ, who doesn't do all that well with the more laid-back actresses, was always a bad idea. I've said this before but she's much more suited for something like ATWT of the early 90's.

Don't get me wrong, I like Pace and I like how she's approached her character when I'm sure she, as a curvaceous black woman, was hired by Y&R to do a straight-up imitation of Nell Carter in Gimme a Break -- or Epiphany on GH. She rocked her scenes covering for Cane and Paul Leyden's character when that mob mess started. Honestly, it's the taint of miscasting NuMalcolm that haunts Sophia and JPM, because if Shermar ever came back while she was on the show, we'd be thinking "when the hell did that happen?"

Incidentally, I don't believe for one damn SECOND that William J Bell had someone like Darius in mind for Malcolm like MAB pretends. By casting both Neil and Shermar back in the day as executive and fashion photographer, it was clearly inferred that they came from an upwardly-mobile middle-class home.
