This isn't soap specific but I found it interesting. NPR did a report on how Hulu is premiering its first original series. It give some interesting information about what's going on in the entertainment industry around online streaming.

Streaming services have to make their own shows because the TV networks are becoming more judicious about what to license to them online. The incredible growth of Netflix in particular has made the premium cable channels adjust how they deal with the company. For instance, both Showtime and Starz have revised their deals to keep current seasons of their shows off the service. For HBO, it doesn't matter whether a show is current or not. You think Netflix can get its hands on an old show like "The Sopranos"?

Hulu faces the same resistance, which might seem odd, considering it's owned by three of the four broadcasters. But these companies are trying to sell Hulu because it hasn't made them the kind of money they expected. As a result, the service has moved away from the one-day delay they had on prime-time shows. Now, you have to wait a week and a day unless you're a Dish Network subscriber. And more cable and satellite services are expected to delay the availability of shows from other broadcasters. Now, can you imagine Hulu without next-day access to shows like "The Simpsons"?

I've gone back and forth on PP but I'll admit I didn't consider the possiblitiy that online companies are actively looking for original content. Anyway, like I said I found it interesting.

I think the entire Netflix explosion really sort of put the clamps on a lot of this. SO it does make a lot of sense. Interesting read.

Unless they have a backer with some deep ass pockets, I cant imagine how they'd be able to pay SL the same as she's being paid now, and keep other higher paid actors as well. I'll be shocked if she does do the online version

I'm not sure how many highly paid actors are left anyway.

Susan took several paycuts in the show's last years, so they may be able to afford that.

Didn't we hear they were being subsidized by the government or was that just rumor? Either way, I have a hard time imagining SL as a regular on an internet series. We all know she has a lot of othr irons in the fire and hasn't actually needed AMC in a very long time. With any luck she'll stop by PV every now and again.

She's still a fairly highly paid actress compared to most in the industry

I'm sure she is, but considering some of the others who may get a good salary likely aren't continuing (like MEK, and we already know Debbi Morgan), I'm not sure it's that hard to believe.

If this is true they reached out to who IMO is the only important key player. We don;t know what this offer consists of or if the other actors would be offered comparable to what they are making today. The deals could also be contingent on PP securing some sort of cable agreement too who knows. And I am talking salary.I could see Lucci sticking around in some capacity out of loyalty.

Wasnt it rumored Mathison and Buddig did not take salary cuts. I think they both make more than Lucci now. I just hope they are not part of the planned move over.

I hadn't heard that, but I wouldn't be surprised. I think there's no way Budig will go near this, thankfully.

I think her husband works at ABC so I have no doubt between that and Frons and his hardon over her she will end up somewhere on ABC.

It could even be on one of those replacement shows

We've been talking about Netflix's original programming for months. I told you so.

Is that where that new Kevin Spacey show is airing?

I mean, if they say the offered Lucci the same salary, they can obviously afford to. LOL. We're never going to know how, truly, they are able to afford the soaps, but they clearly can and will clearly shell out the bucks.
