I agree it sucks but big congrats to Chris. He will be awesome. I am going to root for Kat and Elliot. I don't want Taylor anywhere near that finale unless he wows me but I doubt it. It's fine for him to dance but vocals need to be there too. If I get a good vocal performance, I will be the first to come on here and eat crow but I just don't see him impressing me.

Definitely Chris will be awesome - and still be the ultimate winner of AI as he'll be the only successful one IMO - maybe Katherine will too.

I agree with you on Taylor. He doesn't have outstanding vocals whatsoever.

Anyone have video of the shocking Chris announcement? I missed it. Working and all, lol. PLEASE say it's on You Tube or just..SOMETHING!!!

If Kat or Elliot wins fine but Taylor is not good vocally and this is a SINGING competition.

I think it was Simon who once said that if this were a singing competition it would be on the radio. It's the search for the next Pop Idol, not best singer. Madonna and Janet Jackson are two examples of "okay" singers who are two of the greatest Pop Idols of all time. With a show like American Idol, it's more about having the full package, a good voice, personality, style, etc.

All year long people say, "oh this person is going to get signed!!!" or "they are going to be a star' and it very rarely happens.

BTW, I'm very confused by the Katherine is smug comments. When she first began, I loved her, she had a lowkey style and enjoyed torch songs. I never imagined she would even make it into the top ten. Once that happened and they began to style her they vamped her look up and she suddenly became a bombshell. Still, I don't see the smugness. To me she comes off a little shy/depressed at times, especially this past week. It was like 100% that she'd go home and you could tell by the look on her face.

I am a Taylor fan, I love his voice he's probably the only one that I would buy his CD.

So he can't dance, it's a singing competition.

He's very entertaining and someone would never think would win this because he looks older.

You see in his eyes how much he loves to sing and he's a superb soul singer.

So go TAYLOR!!!

 Entertaining, LOL. WHATEVER. He can't dance or sing or carry a tune. Superb soul singer, that'd be the late great Ray Charles, definitely not Taylor the drunk.

Taylor and Elliott may not be the "marketable" singers but they have set themselves apart from everyone else. Those two have something that Chris doesn't ... originality. T and E have strong personalities and their own music/performance style unlike Chris, who is nothing more that a Rocker wannabee that looks and sounds like any other Pop-Rock band. He has no range, no stage presence, and completly butchered Elvis and Johnny Cash songs.

I think it's refreshing to see Taylor, Elliott and Kat in the semi-finals. The three singers that are all about the music, instead of trying to look and act like Hollywood robots. :)

Chris has range. He does NOT sing every song the same. He sung Elvis's "Suspicous Minds" and Johnny Cash's "I Walk The Line" incredibly. He could cut "I Walk the Line" and it'd be a smash hit. And Chris does NTO act like a robot. He is original. SORRY! but I'm not sorry!

Where is all this "Chris has no originality" talk coming from? He has veered out of the rock genre several times in the competition and did well. He landed in the bottom two twice while deviating from rock so that is clearly what people wanted him to sing. Elliot was the same old same old every week until this past week when he turned it on and was a little different. Taylor on the other hand is the same old. How can he set himself apart from the rest when all he does is scream his vocals and dance on stage? That is not what the winner is. If Taylor backed up his performance with strong vocals it would be fine but he doesn't. That second song Tuesday night was nice but it wasn't impressive. It was even off tune in spots. You can't just get by on dancing-if I want that I will go down to the Karoke bar. Its fine for those of you who like him-but this is not what this competition is about. If Taylor doesn't win it will be fine but if he wins it all I am done and I think alot of people will be. Its about the vocals and he does not have them.

All you Taylor fans should take note to that I liked Taylor until a few weeks ago when I noticed he sucked unless he did his dancing songs. He needs that to cover for his vocals. I just watched the show back and everyone has been talking about Kat being smug you should have seen the look on his face. It was almost like he knows he has it in the bag now since he has never been in the top 3 and now the fave is gone. The way AI pimped him tonight was ridiculous and the looks and reactions on the judges, Nigel's, and the people at AI tonight said it all. The fur is going to fly now and those left are going to feel the backlash like two years ago. People were mad about Jennifer Hudson and Latoya London so the finale fell well short in the ratings and it will again.

Even if you don't like Chris you can't deny this was wrong. Whether he needed it or not is not relevent. he wanted this and deserved his chance to sing for it and he didn't get it because the voting public once again chose based on popularity rather then talent.

I guess next year I will have my nephew try out for AI and just tell him to jump around on stage like he is drunk and then just collapse on stage so he can get to the final 3 and probably win the competition  . That seems to be what American likes I gues-or is it voteforworst and Taylor-s fanbase that likes it? I respect you Taylor fans I do but for the sake of AI's credibility Kay and Elliot better advance or AI is in lods of trouble if it isn't already.

Oh and if we are going on people who don't need this competition-Taylor already has two cd's out. Go to dialidol and in the forums section. Some people already own his cd's so if Chris doesn't need it I guess Taylor doesn't either? I guess we can't just use that argument in relation to Chris if Taylor actually his cd's out before Chris-so if we go by that logic Taylor should be out next even if he deserves a chance since he does not need it.

Great post. I agree on everything you said!

Phoenix, you know I love ya but :P

I actually know what you mean though, Just like you liked Taylor until a few weeks ago. I liked Chris until a few weeks ago when he sang "What a Wonderful World" it was evident that he could only sing Rock Music and did not have the vocal chords to sing a ballad or a slow song.

I think with Taylor it's the throwback to old soul/blues/jazz music, and it's a nice treat to see that type music again. Elton John, Rod Stewart, Sam Cooke, Joe Cocker, Ray Charles and Bob Seager all have similar voices so he's in great company.

IMO Taylor has stong vocals. Not strong like Celine Dion but strong for the type of music he sings. Just like Chris has great vocals for type of Rock music he sings (Puddle of Mudd, Live, Incubus) After his AI contract is up, he will probably take that offer from Fuel.

I have both of Taylor's Pre Idol CD's "Under The Radar" and "In Your Time" and they are excellent!

How dare you compare those incredible singers to Taylor Hicks. Taylor sucks and cannot carry a tune, is not marketable and is singing in a style that went out at least 3 decades ago.

Much as we agree on "Days" and 'Pash,' Phoenix, I have to disagree here. :)

The truth is, everyone has different opinions of all the Idol hopefuls, so I don't think it's fair to say anyone is better than the other as fact. Whereas you think Taylor can't sing, I TRULY got CHILLS during his rendition of "In the Ghetto." I thought it was the best performance of the night, easily. And even if others didn't, that's no reason to quit watching the show. After all, Americans vote for the winners, not the judges. So it's only our fault if we didn't call in enough for our favorites.

I don't agree that the votes aren't based on singing. AS somebody else mentioned, Yamin--who, let's face it, is probably the least marketable of all the top 10--is in the top 3 and, with any luck, probably will be in the top 2. That proves this competition is just fine.

 You got chills when Taylor sung "In the Ghetto" out of tune?!??!?!?! WTF???!!! I laughed my ass off actually when he sung it and "Jailhouse Rock". HORRIBLE!

Good for Chris, that Fuel has again offered him the job of new lead vocalists for the group.

What range? Chris’s singing style sounds like 15 other bands like Creed, The Calling, Nickleback, etc. and if he records a record you couldn’t tell the diference between him and the other bands. It's the same screaming and growling over and over and his Constantine camera fuckig technique *puke* I am just glad the penis with ears finally got knocked off his cocky high horse. Also, If an established band like "Live" which Chris has publicly admitted to copying couldn't make "I Walk The Line" a hit in 2004, What makes you think he could now? Had Chris been singing before Nirvana came onto the scene, he would have been an original. But like I said above, If you've heard one you've heard them all.

I beg your pardon. My Dear, good music never goes out of style. Taylor and Elliott are the most original idols ever and could bring back the good old bluesy sound with an updated sound. Everyone in the room at my house was amazed by his vocals on "In The Ghetto." and by his performance of "Jailhouse Rock." Randy and Paula loved it. Simon, who is the God of the show loved it and told him he just sailed through to the finals. I guess we were not watching the same show?

Good for Chris, that Fuel has again offered him the job of new lead vocalists for the group.

Yes, Good for him. After his Idol contract is honoured, he can front a washed up band who hasn't had a hit in three years. Well if you consider #52 on the Hot 100 a hit. I could be wrong though, they may have great success like JD Fortune and INXS, and score a Top 10 Hot AC hit. ;) Speaking of JD Fortune and INXS, I just read that Chris auditioned for Rock Star last summer and was rejected. I found that hilarious, and had to share.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree :)

Chris DOES HAVE range. I think you just don't like or hate rock music. Sure sounds like. Nickelback, Creed, Fuel, The Calling and CHRIS DAUGHTRY all have difference sounds and DO NOT sound alike at all. The Calling SUCK actually. LOL. Chris, nor Constantine, scream or yell, they are rock singing. Sorry if you don't know what good rock music is! Chris didn't say he copied Live's version of Cash's "I Walk the Line". That's a lie. He said the version he sung was Live's version. Live didn't have a hit with it, because it was never comercially released as a single. Live is a good band, and Chris's fave he has said. Chris's version of "Walk the Line" was BETTER than Live's version IMHO.

Chris Daughtry is a better singer than the rest. Like I've said, I like Elliott, but his singing his old timey, not very marketable and he sings 80% of the stuff he sings in the same tune. But Elliott can sing and I'm happy he's done so well. I've voted for him earlier weeks.

I love Elton John and Ray Charles, and AGREED good music doesn't go out of style and still sells, but it's not the IN music now and someone much better, actually good (LMAO) will have to bring it back, and that's not the horrible, horrible, sucking Taylor "I look 50" Hicks.

Taylor Hicks sucked on "In the Ghetto". He sung it out of tune and Elvis was probably turning over in his grave hearing Hicks sing it. I bet if Elvis were alive he would've shot the hell out of his tv (like he infamously did everytime he saw something on tv he hated). LMFAO!!! Everyone in your house must be as tone deaf as you are or hate rock music like you do or need of hearing aids. LOL. If Taylor Hicks wins IDOL. I predict he will sell the least cd's of any IDOL ever and less than Bo Bice or Clay Aiken as well. I also predict record low ratings for the finale IF this fool is in it. Hopefully he will majorly [!@#$%^&*] up next week and be sent home where he should've been after he first tried out. He should've never made the Top 12!! Paris Bennett is far better as was Bucky. I hate Pickler, but she's about as good as ol' drunken Taylor.

Also RE your comment on Fuel. Fuel has had at least 2 Top 40 pop hits and has hit the Top 20 on Rock and ALternative Rock Tracks charts. BTW, most rock groups in the 90's and 2000's do not do much on the hip hop teeny bopper majorly influenced Hot 100 on Billboard.

If the ROCK STAR stuff is true, then they really missed out. But he wasn't right for INXS anyhow and that's very likely the reason he wasn't accepted for the show because he wasn't right for that group.

Sorry, but Fuel has done better than pretty much anyone from AI2, 3, or 4 with Carrie Underwood being the only debateable one.

Chris is going to rock as Fuel's lead singer. Fuel is awesome. Good luck to the band and Chris! :)

I know what GOOD rock music is, and it sure a hell is not Nickleback, Creed, or 3 Doors Down, which is nothing more than Power POP When I think of GOOD rock music... The Stones, The Who, Floyd, U2, The Doors, Chili Peppers, REM, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, KISS, Sabbath come to mind. Velvet Revolver, Queens of the Stoneage and Godsmack are a few of my modern rock faves. I also like Folk, Blues, R&B, Soul, and Big Band, and an occasional POP song.

Everyone in your house must be as tone deaf as you are or hate rock music like you do or need of hearing aids. LOL.
Yeah, I guess so. Me and my friends, Simon, Paula, Randy, and all the millions of people who voted were tone deaf as well  Even Michael Slezak of EW (who is a Chris whore btw) thought it was his best performance to date

There's no denying his ''In the Ghetto'' was a perfect song choice, proving (once again) that the gray-haired guy has better taste in music than any of his rivals. And Taylor sang it beautifully, too, eschewing even the slightest hint of gimmickry, and reminding even his naysayers of his ability to not only connect with his lyrics, but to make familiar tunes sound very much his own. In fact, I'd call this Taylor's first true ''moment'' since his ''Change Is Gonna Come'' audition. - Entertainment Weekly

Chris went home because he was an over-confident, ordinary, copycat fake wannabe rocker. He sings most every song in the same manner---rock screams, machine-gun voice, intensity bordering on psychosis, and he rarely strayed far from his comfort zone, and as if that wasn't enough, when he tried to be more tender, it gets too hit and miss for him that he gives it up for weeks at a time. Bottom line here is, I don't get the fuss. Yes, he's cute, but he didn't have the variety to show he can do it all convincingly. What the panel blindly calls "uncompromising" is really is just another singer who couldn't be bothered to do something different more often than not. And before you say I'm tone deaf again lol I have taken Music Appreciation, Music History and Rudiments of Music courses, and still stand by my critique of Chris.

I take back the Fuel statement. They have had a slew of Modern Rock Hits and Hemmorage and Innocent went to #1 and #4 on the Alt Charts. My bad

I refuse to step on the McPhee Love Train. Katharine is OKAY, but hardly anything special. As much as I've criticized Chris in the past, the one who should have gotten eliminated last night was Katharine. I hope she goes next week.

I have my problems with Taylor as well. He's too damn theatrical. I can't fawn over him like those in his Soul Patrol do, but I do believe that Taylor at this point is untouchable. Katharine can't beat him. Elliott, who I am rooting for 100%, cannot beat him. Taylor Hicks will be the next American Idol. And this has nothing to do with talent (not implying he isn't talented). But Taylor's fan base is friggin' huge :o

IA with this. But there are obviously a vast array of opinions here. Krypton you obviously like Kat. That's your thing, but Chris does have many fans and its easy to understand why everyone is upset. Katherine is nice, she does have a good package, but is she the best, IMO, NO. I don't mind her at all but she's made it farther than she should've IMO. And she has nothing unique AT ALL to offer this show. Nothing. I know people are saying Chris has been there done that but it would be something new for the show and its fans if he had won. Chris had the whole package, in regards to the singing competition thing, yes, Katherine has it too but she's not the best IMO.

Elliott or Taylor should be in the top 2 and IMO Taylor should take it, true he is quite weird but it would be nice to see someone else take it. And I hope the show suffers from this be it ratings wise or what have you. I'll find out who wins right here, :) LOL.

I like most of the ones you called "GOOD rock music" and agre they are all good. As are Velvet Revolver and Godsmack and some of Queens of the Stone Age's stuff. Nickelback, 3 Doors down and Creed are rock too, just not hard rock the others, although Nickelback can be harder than their more pop stuff. I liked Creed until Scott Stapp's cockiness and arrogance got in the way.

Yeah, I guess so. Me and my friends, Simon, Paula, Randy, and all the millions of people who voted were tone deaf as well  Even Michael Slezak of EW (who is a Chris whore btw) thought it was his best performance to date

Simon didn't like your Taylor on "Jailhouse Rock" you conviently forget nor has he liked him much lately. Also Randy didn't like him much as well on that song. Actually Simon said he looked like an ass. LOL (btw thanks to a good friend for reminding me of that ;) )

Chris went home because he was an over-confident, ordinary, copycat fake wannabe rocker. Again Rick, Chris is NOT over-confident, ordinary nor copycat fake wannabe rocker. He doesn't NOT scream and doesn't border on psychosis (that descriptions fits your Idol Taylor, lmao). Just because you've taken music classes does not make you not tone deaf, lol or an expert on music. You have your right to like ol' drunken acting Taylor. So vote for the fool, poor ass singer if you must.

Actually I have been voting for Elliott since he did that excellent rendition of Queen's "Somebody to Love" (well except last week, when I saw he and Taylor were #1 and #2 so I put Kat on speed dial to get her numbers up. If Elliott makes it to the final two, I will be voting for him and Taylor. I would be happy with either winning.

Frankly, if you didn't vote DON'T BITCH.

He's gone. Get over it.

It's funny Chris fans can't take criticism, but they sure can dish out the hate towards the ones left.

It's just a damn competition. Chris lost, sheesh. It's not the end of the world. And he's ALREADY got a gig. Be happy!

Chris was great, but frankly, I was a huge fan of him and he just got boring. Sorry ... but he was. I hate blinded fans who can't even see past their adoration. Meh. Just my opinion and I'm entitled. But what bothered me the most? He was overconfident and borderline smug towards the end. He expected to be handed the win. He must of DONE something wrong to get voted off. I'm sorry to sound so mean, but he's gone and we can't change that. Chris, IMO, was too good for the competition. America votes for who they feel would benefit from it the most. Why on earth do you think Ruben won over Clay? or Kelly over Justin? Or Fantasia over Diana? Or Carrie over Bo? They have a broader appeal.

I'll be pissed just like the rest of you if Taylor wins .... but this isn't just a vocal contest. It's personality, too. Chris looked bored...

Oh and Mulder ... please. Chris DOES scream when he sings, lol, even you can't deny that.

Krypton I agree but my anger is not based on Chris getting voted off even though he is my fave. Its based on the fact that almost every year the wrong person goes home because you have groups like voteforworse or certain singers have a disadvantage because of other fanbases. I think people voted for Chris but I think Elliot took alot of his votes because he has come on strong and rightfully so. I also think Kat's fanbase got voting too because they were afraid for her and, without bashing Taylor, he has a huge fanbase and voteforworst on his side.

Its not about who needs it-this competition is about who deserves it. Kelly and Carrie deserved it and so did both Ruben and Clay. Fantasia did not deserve it but since Latoya and Jennifer Hudson were wrongfully eliminated she got the benefits. I don't care who needs it-I care about who deserves it and to this point it was Chris like him or not.

If this had never happened before I would be ok with it but it happens all the time so that is why I am furious. Chris has been the most consistent and is the whole package. Did he act a bit arrogant? Sure but I would too if I got the amount of praise he did. I mean he was getting offers left and right and compliments left and right. Did he scream once or twice? Yes and I acknowledged that in my weekly performance posts. I may have been irrrational in my feelings about Taylor but I just don't think he fits what the idol is and, after listening to his vocals the last few weeks, he has been horrible. He was good before that but it just came apart for me much like it did for you concerning Chris. I don't hate any of them-but I will say if we apply you "who needs it most" argument Taylor should be out by now because he has two cd's out.

Sure it's only a TV show but to me its about ethics and what is right and he was robbed of a shot. I don't know if he would have won but he should had a shot just like Tamyra, Jennifer, and Latoya should have. It's fine to have a upset once in awhile but these outsters are blantant. I guess we will have to agree to disagree but I feel its a serious issue because it does affect people's lives. Chris got an offer but we don't know if it will turn out as well as if he won idol even though it will likely will. Look what happened to Latoya-she lost her shot unfairly and we don't even hear about her. Its a TV show but its serious because the singer and their family are invested and so are their fans and when something like this happens the singer and their family are drastically effected and may lose thier one chance and the fans are cheated out of enjoying their fave and who they felt was the best because of the reasons I mentioned above.
