Fascinating because I was 11 or 12 years old watching live when Viki started splitting into Niki Smith, going out and having fun and flirting with Vinnie. My older sister explained that Viki had a "split personality" and the little that was known at that time -- there was no internet for me to research on. This was when there was a storyline about Victor disapproving of the Larry/Meredith romance, and somehow that stressed out Viki? That didn't make sense but that's why they said Viki was stressed, that her father was so controlling of Meredith, or something like that, and then also Meredith got sick. Lots of family stress impacting Viki who loved her sister Meredith. Or at least that's how my sister understood it, that Viki was worried about Merry (Meredith). I didn't know anything about multiple personalities (and it wasn't "multiple" then, only one alter on the show at that time) . . . so I just accepted the explanations given by the dialogue and my sister.

And in the 1970s I knew that Nancy Pinkerton's Dorian let Victor die. It was clear she was guilty of causing his death. I was at a friend's house watching the day that aired.

In the late 1990s or early 2000s, I tried to learn what I had missed. I was stunned to learn of the whole Victor molesting Viki backstory and that Viki had multiple alters. That seemed so very far away from the Ernest Graves' portrayal of Victor Lord that I remembered. I just couldn't accept it. Maybe that's why I didn't dive back into watching OLTL?

Thanks for sharing your memories of the show. There's an interview with Erika Slezak where she says Ernest Graves would have been rolling over in his grave if he'd seen what they did with Victor.

From what I understood, the death of Vicki's mother and being the oldest and being named after her father ended up causing Victor to use Vicki as a surrogate spouse (emotional **cest)... so when the rewrite happened in the 90s, it actually made sense because abuse wasn't talked about in the late 60s/early 70s and so what was seen back in the day was the illusion that Victor was showing to the world and Vicki deep down knew that things weren't normal and couldn't deal.

People were so confused by the story in the 90s, but it made perfect sense to me. Of course, I tend to understand that what is shown isn't always what is true.

Thanks for this treasure @MissPalmer and thank you to @Vee for the tag.

I know that one tiny fragment with Viki and Victor was around but I had never seen the rest. I sure as hell had never seen Jim Storm as Larry!

@Paul Raven @slick jones @SFK @sunvsbanner @Maxim @mar4331 @alwaysAMC @CrazySexyQ @Kane @soapfave06 @Soaplovers @SoapDope78 @All My Shadows @cassadine1991 @Spoon

Wow ! Thanks for the tag. I never thought we would see early color footage with sound.

Thanks for the tag. Those little clips are like gold. Jim Storm as Larry catches my attention the most because I'm so used to him done up in his Dark Shadows garb as Gerard, it's so weird to see him a contemporary setting. Similarly, I see Gillian Spencer and immediately think Daisy, but in just these few moments, you can see how well-suited she was to the ingenue role (which makes sense after her GL run).

I feel like we have to be close to finding something substantial from the Carla/Clara story.
