If I had wanted Middle Americans to stroke out or lapse into cardiac arrest, I would have suggested Viki and Dorian doin' the do inside Victor Lord's secret room at Llanfair.

I never even thought about going in that direction, but that's so smart! Hank is exactly who i had in mind...except for his little mid life crises in the 1990's when he and Bo bought motorcycles. The prominant D.A and the proper Victoria Lord together. I like it.

But if we couldn't get Hank, what do you think about bringing Bobby Blue back. Blair Underwood is still very good looking. By now Bobby could be a lawyer or someone important.

It's time to bring this back - Troy and Lindsay doin' it during the Storm of Change, February 2003. Malone and Griffith's first full week back, a week or two before things really began to go off the rails.

This marked the end of Gary Tomlin's dreadful Troy and Nora pairing, which he had believed would be audience wish fulfillment for the fans of a real pairing of Ty Treadway and Hillary Smith - in the end, no one bought Troy as being any less crazy than twin brother Colin, and Ty had proven to have much more chemistry with Cat Hickland, which led to Troy falling into a twisted, hateful and very hot affair with nemesis Lindsay, which culminated with this. "Take what you came for!" Then Nora walks in on a scene which you probably couldn't show on daytime today, done entirely with some deft editing.

The show became very atmospheric and dark very, very quickly around this period, with Frank Valentini taking over as EP and experimenting (very effectively, at the time) with lighting and music. Valentini and Griffith were both into using real, edgy music on the show, and back then they could still afford to use stuff like Tori Amos and Elvis Costello, which plays in the first clip. Raw, visceral, contemporary and morally complicated, the show finally resembled the show I'd started watching as a kid - for a few weeks, and then things got very schizoid and ridiculous for the next two years before descending into sheer hell with Dena Higley.

    • Very disappointed in the writers in the way they are screwing with Nicole, Ted,  and Kat to make Leslie remain viable. So many holes everywhere.
    • Somebody brought this up elsewhere which emphasizes why this NuTed appears as such a weakling? Why is Kat doing what HE should be doing? And that's everything he can to rid him and his family of this crazy woman. Kat is doing all kinds of things she shouldn't do but now I understand her more. She can't count on her father to eliminate this woman because he's a wimp. He's been too busy inviting her into his home and serving her drinks and offering her invitations to birthday parties. WIMP!!!!

    • This is (maybe) overly simplistic and nonsoapy, but Doug needs to go to Gamblers Anonymous, to deal with the addictive neurological excitement hits that gambling gives him - and which control his life. Vanessa needs to go to therapy to find ways to remain healthfully lusty and sex-positive, but to stay away from anyone who would demean her.
    • YT keeps commending GL clips to me. I discovered Kathleen Cullen was on in Christmas 1987. Was there any talk of making it permanent  or was this just a special visit? I wish they had made the visit permanent. I liked her chemistry with Grant Aleksander.
    • I'm not sure it's as unpopular as you think.  I just think the show knew they were in a bind, and needed a proven couple for the viewers to invest in. Trying to reunite Vanessa and Ross had just failed in 87. I don't think Ed and Holly's affair was well received, as Simon and Garrett had a brother/sister chemistry. Enter Billy and Vanessa, who give you history and an out not to try and do a Josh/Reva/Billy triangle, which would've really wrecked the relationship between Josh and Billy. I'd have been ok with trying Vanessa/Ross again, and doing a Vanessa/Ross/Holly/Billy quad for a while. I hated Nadine. HATED. She had to be the most insufferable also-ran before ATWT's Julia Lindsay. This is where I wish I knew Roger's history better.

    • GROSS. Michael Swan was hot back in his ATWT days. Now he's 76 and WAY past his hot years.
    • Since she kidnapped, locked up and tried to kill her father's wife I'd say that is still a pretty big deal
    • I'm good with the gushing, too. There aren't many soap icons like John Black, and that's important to celebrate and remember. And yes, life does go on for other characters, but as they say, timing is everything. Going sky diving the day before the funeral? And during a week of shows that were so powerful emotionally? No.
