AMC Tribute Thread

Oh my, another post on Lipstick Alley mentioned that Frons and Rebecca Budig dated briefly. So gross. Now it all make sense.

To be honest, I never understood the hype around Rebecca Budig throughout her entire run, even with her brief absences. Her acting never resonated with me—it felt underwhelming. Sure, she plays a good "mean girl," but so do countless other actresses. When her character was retconned to be Jack's daughter, it only made me dislike Rebecca's acting even more.

Thanks for tagging me as well, @NothinButAttitude.  I, too, am not surprised to read all that about Sabine Singh's time on AMC.  (Leave it to Julie Hanan Carruthers to be concerned over whether the poor girl still wanted a farewell cake, lol).  There was a time, I think, when AMC's was one of the most congenial sets in daytime.  Somewhere along the way, however, that changed.

Granted, I wasn't a fan of Greenlee, regardless of who played her.  But I definitely agree that Singh was treated very, very badly by a lot of people BTS.  AT should've been fired and removed from the set the minute he had made that remark, regardless of how popular Aiden and Greenlee were.

The only time I liked her was when they paired her with Jake, as he frequently called her out on her [!@#$%^&*]. She was just so unpleasant, entitled, and bigoted, which we were meant to find endearing because she was a poor little rich girl. I can't act like they were wrong, as she had many fans, but this type of character being shoved to the front of the show is another reminder of how much AMC had lost its moral core in that final decade.

Budig is also a very cold/flat actress, which is one of the reasons she never found success elsewhere.

I hadn't recalled, but I checked the wiki, and the irony is that RB only returned for a year!

Of course, she returned again, but that's a lot of hoopla for a year.

Greenlee Smythe is a character from the soap opera All My Children, portrayed by Rebecca Budig from August 11, 1999 to November 30, 2005, and was portrayed by actress Sabine Singh from April 20, 2007 to January 15, 2008. On December 14, 2007, it was announced that Budig accepted the offer to reprise the role, and would continue her portrayal of the character. Episodes with Budig began airing again January 16, 2008.

Budig again departed the role on February 17, 2009, the day the character was killed off. In the June 29, 2009 issue of ABC Soaps in Depth magazine, head writer Charles Pratt, Jr. confirmed they had written Greenlee to remain alive, but that Budig would be making no immediate plans to return to the show. On October 8, 2009, it was confirmed that Budig would return to the show in December. Budig returned on December 23, 2009 and remained with the series until its finale on September 23, 2011.

All because she was living in Los Angeles and, that's the only reason she came back, because of the serial's move to the west coast. She signed a one-year deal, with the option of a second, and opted to not choose the option. From Soap Central (published October 12, 2008):

❝ Now a year into her return, Budig opted not to green-light an option that would have allowed her to stay with the show for another year. The toll of having to lead a bicoastal life -- husband Bob Guiney lives in Los Angeles, where he had Budig settled after her 2006 exit from All My Children -- has become too difficult. ❞

All this Rebecca Budig talk has me remembering an article (pretty sure it was in Soap Opera Digest) for All My Children's 40th anniversary. They asked Agnes Nixon to name her top 5 AMC characters, and one of them was Greenlee. I was like, "Wait, what?" I know Agnes created the character, but by then, Greenlee was so overexposed and retconned. It felt like Brian Frons must’ve forced poor Agnes to say Greenlee at gunpoint or something!

Does anyone else remember this article? I'd love to re-read it!
