Dack Rambo's history of losing jobs abruptly is quite a thing to behold (setting aside Another World which is rather sad since it was linked to his AIDS-related decline).

I have always wondered to which extent it was his homosexuality and to which extent he may have been a problem behind-the-scenes for a reason or another.

They sort of brought the Nazi thing back in 1998. Palmer was hiding a bunch of Nazi paintings. Anyone else remember this?

It was an unpopular storyline - even with James Mitchell, I believe. The most interesting part for me was the Opal/Palmer split. I never really believed he would have stayed with her as long as he did, and the fallout (along with the reveal of her son Adrian) was good drama.

And if I read the synopsis right, Jenny and Tony's non-wedding/Liza revealing to Jenny that Tad slept with her and Marian happened during the week of Dec. 26-30, 1983. A good time for events (like Luke and Laura leaving GH), given that many people were on Christmas break and could watch.

The reports of the time do not indicate any bad terms.  She left to play a role on Momma's Family (perhaps inspired by Carol Burnett's AMC fandom).

But it is my understand she was really pissed they didn't ask her first when they brought Opal back and went straight to recast instead. That was long after of course but the story of why they did that if she was open to returning is an open question.

It seems naive to think she'd come back on contract after Mama's Family - I'm not sure what she'd expect them to do.

It could even be that she would have declined anyway but simply wanted the "courtesy" of first refusal.

Tony Dow had been on GH and Never Too Young (I think) so I guess it makes sense.
