AMC and OLTL Canceled!

I really don't understand what else is expected from these actors. Yes, it is hard losing a job, but it isn't the end of the world. They know that they are lucky that they have gotten to work steadily for such a long time, but their lives go on. They have to be positive and look forward to the future.

I agree actually. I do think his 'Thank you Frons' was much, but the rest was fine. I mean, it sucks that OLTL is going off the air, but you can't tell me that these actors thought soaps would last forever or that they don't know how the life of an actor is.

I fully expect the older castmembers to be a lot more devastated than the younger ones and I understand the feelings of both.

Uh, I called Tonja Walker crazy.

Yes you did.

Meant to mention that in the previous post.

Robin Strasser is not doing herself any PR favors but AFAIC she can say whatever she wants at this point (and yes, I'd say the same thing for Victoria Rowell, though I think Rowell's younger and thus in a much more vulnerable position). I just hope she's able to work again.

+1.

Yet NOBODY labels either of them (or Strasser, Walker, etc) "crazy" or says they'll never work in Hollywood again when they "speak out".

They're constantly applauded & encouraged for it.

You haven't heard Ilene and Robin labeled crazy, nuts, etc.? Wow I sure have...

Honesty is the best policy.

Only if the next job is guaranteed. And sometimes not even then. Robin herself said she's not so financially well off that she can afford to never work again.

It's not the end of the world, true, but for many actors it is tough, as they have kids, and other problems. I think there's a way to be positive without treating the whole thing as no big deal. It just seemed oddly put together, to me. It was all very apathetic until time for the Frons part.

Robin Strasser is old and done so she can afford to be a bitch. People can claim that she is entertaining, but with her diva attitude, she is damn lucky that Dorian wasn't shipped out of Landview ages ago.

She can afford to be a bitch because all of her potential primetime employees in L.A. don't give a sh!t about daytime or Brian Frons.

The optimism is the part I can understand. You can be a glass half full or half empty kind of person, and it is always better to look on the bright side and see everything as an opportunity, especially when you are relatively young. As actors, they all probably should have left OLTL a while back to hit the pavement and do auditions. Not that I would ever accuse him of being a great actor, but good for Justin Bruening leaving AMC at the right time, and now he is starting what will hopefully for him be a long running primetime show. I feel bad for people like Robert S Woods and Erika Slezak because they are not young and not really old enough to retire, so basically they are done whether they like it or not.

Hmm, ES said in a newsletter last year she's set for retirement. I don't think she's bitter at all. IMO, she's been prepared for a few years for the show to get cancelled and feels gifted it lasted this long.

It's the actors over 40 who aren't ready for retirement who feel cast adrift.

I think both Ilene and Robin are a little off, but I respect them and their work immensely and I love them regardless. I wouldn't make the choices they've made, though. I thought there was some sort of New York state ordnance which was supposed to prevent Robin from using twitter. She's going to give Charlie Sheen, Jamey Giddens and several Internet trolls a run for their money. It's something I watch through my fingers.

As for money, I don't know any of the over-40 vets who are in financial straits here except Robin Strasser. I thought FL was still in her 30s; did she just buy an expensive condominium? I expect she'll be okay, though.

But that last line was both a slap in the face and a suck of the dick.

Exactly. Everything before that was just fine, if a bit of an overshare, but the "thank you Frons" made me want to punch him in the throat. I can only imagine being a coworker of his and reading that. Somebody's got a beatdown coming in the mens' room if you ask me.

Nope.

They're pretty much treated as "heroines" by most soap fans.

McTavish was OLTL's OFFICIAL headwriter from Feb 1999 to Jan 2001. She was listed in the credits in the 2000 episodes I have on tape, too.

McT appeared on AMC's crawl through June of 99, but what was on screen had clearly shifted to something else (Nixon) by February... And McT was rumored to be at oltl - just not officially HW yet. The change wasnt confirmed til around May.

I've never been a fan of Ilene's work going back to Ryan's Hope days. There been tales of her crazy behavior for two decades. She can act certiable a lot, mostly due to the booze.

Robin is a gifted actress. I cheered her laying into Rauch and JFP. However, she can sound like a crazy loon a lot on her hotline and many have said her rants often made little sense on there over the years.

FL just turned 41 last December. She'll be fine. She was off soap for almost 8 years where she supported herself just fine with a few movies, primetime guest appearances and her first love, theater. She's working on a new play and never given up her outside work during OLTL.

I think even Robin would admit that she's pretty comfortable, probably more comfortable than others her age in the soap biz. But she's shared that she has the immigrant/Depression "What if there's no food on the table!?" mentality where she'll never be quite "satisfied" with her emergency resources. She's a big saver, telling women on the hotline not to waste their money on expensive bags, get themselves some real estate instead, get the best interest rate, shop at Ross-Dress for Less, and so on. She's got that Upper East Side townhouse that's paid for, she has (had?) at least one apartment in the city. It may be the one she rented to Erin Torpey back in the day, but to make some extra cash, she moved into it and rented the townhouse to David Duchovy and Tea Leoni for a spell. She had two homes in L.A., hers and her mom's, I think she sold hers (the one next door to Ellen and Portia) and moved into her mom's place to downsize and make a little more cash, I mean, she's smart and making that mney work for her.
