Members TeamEric
I think all three ABC soaps were scheduled for cancellation. They held back on GH because they had no replacement yet that sounded at least plausible to spin as evolving the face of daytime. ABC wants out of expensive programming to cheap fare but they can't say that outloud.
Members marceline
That's really it. No conspiracy theories, no favoritism, at least not at the highest levels. Just a company deciding to cut bait.
Members DRW50
He sounds downright giddy. I guess he may assume that he can get any job, after OLTL continually promoted him in spite of years of tanking storylines, shockingly bad performances, and a general lack of interest. Members Ann
Certainly people can try. But, I'm not one of them. I worked hard to keep Port Charles on the air and all my time and energies fell, of course it was cancelled. I just won't get involved in another losing battle and, in my opinion, it is a losing battle. ABC will not reverse their decision. It's been in the works for a long time, they have the replacement shows in place, and they will, in all likelihood cancel GH sooner rather than later, too. ABC wants out of the soap business, and we can do nothing about it. In fact, I can't see the remaining soaps being on the air for much longer either. In fact, I couldn't see how with such basement low ratings how the soaps in the 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 range could stay on the air. Soaps have been cancelled with such ratings. I can't say that I'm surprised that AMC and OLTL were cancelled. It's been going around for weeks/months. I knew it was only a matter of time. Members Carolyn1980
Oy. I don't even think Brian Frons could take that as anything but ass-kissing.
Members LoyaltoAMC
What's he supposed to say? He's young and obviously doesn't want to burn any bridges. He had the choice to accept the inevitable with some dignity or without any tact, and he chose the former. Robin obviously went the latter route. Sure, she makes for great drama (I really can't wait to see what she'll write next) and I suppose at her age she has nothing to lose, but show some class woman! Members DaytimeFan
Why bother with class? ABC certainly didn't.
Members marceline
There's a difference between not burning bridges and being a servile, fawning suckup completely devoid of integrity. JMHO.
Members DRW50
I don't see how not going on about the wonders of working for Frons would be burning bridges. I also don't know if starting off cancelation news with a shrug ("yeah, you know") and talking about how great it will be to move on is the best farewell. Not when he's been one of the show's main stars for years and they invested a lot in him.
Members Ann_SS
I highly doubt that JPL assumes that, rather I think that he is taking a positive approach to his future. Exactly. JPL doesn't want to burn bridges and know something, he is right that he is fortunate to have gotten steady work as an actor for so many years. Robin Strasser is old and done so she can afford to be a bitch. People can claim that she is entertaining, but with her diva attitude, she is damn lucky that Dorian wasn't shipped out of Landview ages ago. Members TeamEric
I think there was plenty of favoritism shown over the years especially by Frons. However, I don't believe this decision was up to him. What's been missing in this discussion is Disney's role. They shredded the news division recently too. Disney wants to sell ABC and all their decisions are based on cutting costs everywhere to make the network more attractive. They will cut GH next and can then spin to buyers their daytime programming costs now 80% LESS to produce than before.
Members wingwalker
So Jamey Giddens just posted JPL's quote praising Frons on DC & basically called him a butt kisser too. Countdown to FF giving Jamey Giddens the finger, in 3-2-1...
Members AlexElizabeth
Is JPL kidding me???
Members DRW50
I respect your opinion, but I've seen a lot of AMC and OLTL actors take positive approaches and they didn't sound like that. It comes across to me as a combination of a kiss-up and a who cares. Considering how much Jamey/DC praised Gigi/Rex, JPL, and Farah for a while, this is amusing. I guess there isn't much reason to praise them now.
