I think what I hate most about today's soaps is that they aren't offering anything you can't see elsewhere - in many cases, they are offering worse version of stuff that was already an embarrassment 10 or 20 years ago. I'm not saying soaps should try to do all sorts of crazy things, but I at least wish they were able to reclaim some unique place in television. I think trying to be like primetime is the biggest reason for the irrelevance of soap opera, more than any cultural changes.

I know I'm in the minority, but oh the [!@#$%^&*] I could give about Jack and Erica... period, let alone walking down the aisle, and it even bothers me a little that that tops the list. I guess they wanted to start with someting Erica-related, but...

They also cheated with putting flashbacks twice, and honestly, as nostalgic as I am there isn't time for a bunch of flashbacks. Especially if they're going to be the same ones that always get dragged out. Comb the archives and give me a Tad/Jenny/Jesse/Angie flashback that we haven't seen in forever, a forgotten Mona and Erica scene that has yet to make a highlight reel, stuff like that.

I was watching What's Happening!! last night where OLTL alum Thalmus Rasula (Bill) and AMC alum Lee Chamberlin (Lee) were getting married and yet again I implore them to have her back at least once. There is SO much going on for Angie not to have her mom.

There needs to be one last mention of those we lost over the years...Phoebe, Langley, Charles, Mona, Palmer, Myrtle, Kate, and Nick. I want Agnes and Lorraine to incorporate as much of the show's early history as possible, whether through flashbacks or with the mention of long-gone characters. God help me if the final days are filled with endless scenes of Rylee and Zendall talking about their future hopes and dreams. I have no illusions that Rylee and Zendall WON'T be a huge part of those final weeks, but Agnes and Lorraine need to be left alone to do their thing and not be scrutinized 24x7, with no one standing over their backs to make sure that it's just about them with Erica as guest star. Now is the time, after all of these years, to finally stop with all the agendas and write what viewers really want to see. End of rant :)

Ugh, they want Erica's end to be about nothing more than a man? Thanks but no thanks. Hopefully AN sticks by what she said and actually has Erica work through her issues. I don't want J&E because the show is pressured to end her with a man.

I like Bianca and Marissa. And David does need his license back. (I'm wondering if they're going to bring him full circle and have him save Erica to get his license back?) Angie and Jesse deserve a happy ending, yes. The rest, eh. I like flashbacks, but lets have them tell the story, not just be random.

I was thinking about LG when I mini-ranted on FOJ. I found it very curious that ES would say that LG wasn't particularly good for the show. I think she was one of the best things that ever happened to OLTL. And I don't know, maybe she was a little arrogant and industry people got their feelings hurt because she tried to reinvent the wheel or whatever  when her efforts should have been widely applauded. I think the fact that this woman walked away from the show on her own accord (how often does that happen?) and the entire industry in general really said a lot.

From a production standpoint, Linda Gottlieb did a better-than-average job of updating OLTL for the next generation of soap viewers. Unfortunately, I think she needed a HW who respected the show's particular and unique history more. Most of the time, I felt Michael Malone would have been more comfortable working on a show of his creation rather than someone else's.

I think in the long run Malone's stories damaged the show quite a bit (making Todd a Lord, and the sexual abuse angle which later writers used way too much), although he did have a lot of talent.

I think that Gottlieb did a lot to help OLTL move forward, she introduced some fantastic characters, but I guess I can see where Erika had some doubts.

What really gets me is that people like Robert S. Woods and James DePaiva disliked Gottlieb so much, that they led the charge in making sure OLTL wasn't nominated for best show the whole time Gottlieb was there (this was before they had the process where shows submitted episodes to even be nominated; at this point, nominations were made before anyone actually was required to watch). I guarantee OLTL would've had at least two, possibly three best show wins during her tenure if the show had been nominated. The year OLTL swept half the acting categories (HBS, RH, and SH) and won best writing, it wasn't even nominated.

Poor Eileen, what Goutman and P&G did to her in the finale was one of the most cruel things I have seen on television.

I think Frons would totally do it. But I do agree that crafty Frank and Ron would get her scenes in the can and just dive bomb Frons with them for the finale. Neither of them has anywhere to go at ABC, why not right?

"Pine Valley isn't exactly the corner of Hollywood and Vine..."

"You ruined me with your SWEDISH MEATBALLS!!!"

"*Greenlee and Kendall fall in the pool*"

"*Angie cries over Jesse's dead body*"

"*Jenny smiles her ass off on the jet ski......and it explodes.*"

"*Erica gives birth to Bianca*"

"*Erica models at the Met*"

"*Kate Martin blows us a kiss*"

Get creative with the flashbacks, ABC! Damn! I do want one long montage just so that we can get a glimpse at characters who don't need to return (or can't) but were still important parts of the show at one point. Give me some Estelle, some Lucas, some Gloria, some Dottie, etc. Just little glimpses in a montage would be fine.

Honestly, I do not get why there's so much hostility to the idea of Bianca being bisexual. Daytime ain't barely done sh!t for us switch hitters, and we have what looks like an opportunity for Lorraine Broderick and Agnes Nixon to collaborate on a storyline about bisexuality. I'll be damned if I give that up just because some people want to pretend like we don't exist.

    • Reviewing the 1985/86 sophomore slaughtering and sophomore surprise. The Cosby Show 23 of 25 episodes finished #1 in their original broadcast, one episode finished 2nd, and one episode finished 3rd. Murder, She Wrote 18 of 22 episodes were the highest-rated drama in their original broadcast and 19 of 22 episodes were CBS's highest-rated scripted series in their original broadcast.
    • I really enjoy Tracy and Jason together as well in scenes. I’m a sucker for the surviving older Quartermaines, it’s just crazy that it took this long for a producer to tell Steve Burton we don’t care what you want, you’re a Quartermaine, get the [!@#$%^&*] over it. Murders actually solved in Port Charles? Hell no. The people in town don’t care so we’re not supposed to. God if they did this to usher Sonny off it would be the best episode of GH I’ve ever seen. I’d never complain again. I will never stop trying to get that 10% out of you It was so so good. There was so much promise. New old writers came back in and immediately said f.uck that, Sonny is a hero. You are not alone when it comes to Harper as Jordan. It’s a lonely island of 2 but you’re not alone. I enjoy her and especially with the new doctor.   Most of his time on this damn show has just been him in a hospital bed over a football injury we never even saw happen .
    • The casting of Reginald seemed to have been part of the reason for a lack of exploration of vulnerability in the character. I know Mary talked about not liking the change in Reg, but her disappointment was rarely explored once she left him.  For example, did she ever question if Reg was conning her in Paraguay, or was the Bay City version of Reg real? Imagine running a philanthropic center in Paraguay, and then becoming a social worker in Bay City?  It must have been so frustrating to once be able to provide anything that anyone needed, and now having to rely on government funded programs. And lastly, she went from a house full of servants, to living over a restaurant.  We were supposed to believe that she was so blinded by her love for Vince and the kids, that she never longed for her life when someone else washed her lingerie?
    • This was an excellent "filler" episode but I'd prefer to refer to it as a character building episode. I love that BTG is paced in a way that they can have episodes like this as opposed to the repetitive nature of the other soaps which don't leave room for this. The highlight for me was Eva with Martin's family. They've talked so much about her doing hair and I was so excited to finally get to see that in action. I thought the tension with Samantha was nice since she is a Dupree woman. I also love that Martin is trying to help Eva feel welcomed. I struggled a bit with Martin but he really shines when put across Eva, Kat and his grandparents. He definitely gets my vote for most improved. I also loved the scenes with Dani, Nicole and Andre. I love that Nicole clocked them so easily lol. I know many haven't enjoyed how Dani has acted since the Ted/Eva reveal but I find it so heartwarming watching her with Nicole. They clearly have a deep love for each other despite their differences and I love that Dani still tries even though her approach isn't always great and her whole life is a mess. Nicole/Dani is another one of the star pairs on the show. Anita and Vernon's scenes were excellent and the more I see of this story, the more I can't wait for the Articulettes to show up. I wonder if they've already been quietly cast and are filming. Not that I'm complaining, but the set is like Fort Knox so we really have no clue what is going on there. I can only hope we will see them soon. I also must say, Tamara Tunie looked stunning today.  The Jacob/Naomi scenes were another highlight. I like the working class vibe they give to the show. I'm also becoming intrigued about June and want to know more about how she ended up on the streets and who she's connected to. I hope it's Haley because she's in dire need of some backstory and development. The weak point of the episode were the Bill and Haley scenes. How are you going to have them having sex on his desk and we couldn't see a little bra or shirtless action from Bill? That was tired and a waste of time. They need to work on integrating them more with the rest of the canvas. I do not care about them anymore.
    • I always thought the cliffhanger was so anticlimactic, compared to the Dallas cliffhanger that year and three years earlier Kirby strangled Alexis, which Blake stopped. The Matthew cliffhanger was dull as hell.
    • Setting aside a general distaste for the story -- I was sitting here wondering how long Erica's doppelgänger Jane story lasted?  Also, how did it begin?  What was the setup for Erica to have a double?
    • Fixed. Thanks for letting me know.   DA's passing truly saddened me. More than many of the recent passings. I was holding out hope we'd get one more visit  before she passed.

    • Made even dumber with that Blake/Alexis chokehold, followed by the following season when Matthew resurfaced. WTF? There’s good reason I have skipped from Season 5 straight to Season 9 on a couple of my Dynasty rewatches lol. And Chase was supposed to die, but somehow they talked Foxworth back into one more season. They probably shouldn’t have at all.
    • Philip, like Reva, were characters that should have remained in the 80s and never been bought back to the soap.
    • I was just going through the vault and watching some random episodes from 2001, then 2006. Sigh. What a different show it was back then. It makes me so sad that it’s barely a shell of its former self. It was always so multigenerational. There were compelling stories for all generations without having to sacrifice anything to make it work.
