I was thinking about that and I think some people are looking at this Talk/OLTL thing as a head-to-head feud - and that makes sense from a timeslot standpoint - but it's not like The Talk is taking audience away from OLTL, as if The Talk premiered and OLTL's numbers went into the tank. People who want to watch a drama are still watching OLTL, L&O, etc... If ATWT had been replaced by another soap, then I could see this Jets/Sharks mentality but honestly these are two totally different products that attract different types of audiences. The real "threat" of The Talk is that its pulling in good numbers for less money so it's just more evidence in the business case against soaps in their current form.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing Lucci on The Talk. Partially because I love watching do that hair toss, eye flutter, "Oh you flatter me so!" thing she does and partially because its such a middle finger to Frons.

Well......................................................................I have to totally agree with you on this. The Talk isn't competition for OLTL. You're right. Totally different genres. It supposed to be CBS' answer to The View. If anything, I would like to see it go head to head with The View. That would be much more interesting.

Yeah The Talk Is More A Test To See If Talk shows are the way to go and I Think These six soaps will be around for a while. The Talk Im Not So Sure. Its Getting The same ratings that ATWT Got But Is cheaper so CBS will stick with it for a while but It can get a Tad Boring and Im so sick of Leah and then Sara Gilbert always asking Hows it like to be a mom?

They need to get rid of some of these gals with ones who can do a talk show

Plus Im sorry But To Cancel a 54 Year old show for this makes no sense and the same goes for Lets Make A Deal. They Should Have just kept the soaps and invested in them.

Why should these networks invest in soaps? The Talk is doing pretty well in the demos and thats all the advertisers care about. Also soaps cost more to produce and for the amount of viewership GL/ATWT and even some soaps are getting now it's not worth it for the networks.

I was going to write something similar to this but we're now firmly in "It's all been said before" territory. I'll never understand the reasoning that they shouldn't have canceled a 54-year-old show. IMO, these shows should've been canceled and replaced five or six times in 54 years.

I think a cheaply made soap - cheap in price, not quality of writing or casting - could probably do better than something like LMAD, which CBS treats as a dirty little secret, and which some reported had lower demos than GL.

The Talk I don't see as being just a soap replacement. It has a higher pedigree.

It Is A Soap Replacement & Im Sorry but I Think A Soap Where U Memorize Pages & Pages Of Dialouge and then film the scenes in ONE TAKE Makes That Higher Pedigree THan Talk shows and game shows

They Are All Entertainment But It Takes a Lot More To produce a soap than a talk or game show

I look forward to seeing all the characters who show up at this pool all summer. Oh, look, there's Ezra!  -- Couldn't Brennan have done a better job -- or any job at all -- of keeping Anna from investigating Dalton? Seemed to me that all he did was give her every reason to do that. -- GH does the courtroom stuff very well. We get absurd lines of questioning that no one objects to or that the judge allows, but it's good TV.
    • 1985 was a rough year for the show.  Paul Rauch had a disastrous end to his 12 year run as executive producer in early 1983.  Allan Potter, AWs original executive producer, returned to the show in 1983 and stayed until the end of 1984.  He truly turned the show around quickly.  He made the show watchable and entertaining again.  When Potter’s retirement was announced P&G was going to transfer Mary Ellis Bunim from ATWT to AW. Instead, she went to Santa Barbara to work with the Dobsons again.  This was when Schenkel was hired and made one bad choice after another.
    •   More Supremes parallel: Today Anita told Vernon that she'd anonymously sent money to Barbara's family, but it didn't relieve her feeling of guilt. I didn't realize that the Supremes were originally named the Primettes.
    • Hahahaha!!! Not Sharon with a better wig. But...could we be seeing an actual rival for Anita.   Mmmm...hey Andre hey!    Chief Executive of Orgasm is taking me out. It is weird seeing Dani in that nightie after just watching Y&R birthday party for Nikki and thinking that was what Abby was wearing and found it a miss.    Oh, lord, Bill! Hush! Big baby!!!   OMG! Nosy Nurse....read her a$$!!
    • Yeah I’m glad Anita put a stop to that. What Anita did was wrong and it’s okay for her to admit and feel what she did was wrong. The Duprees have to be wrong at some time.
    • Come thru, Anita's backstory!!! Enjoy TT having her moment.
    • Leslie is not being a very good criminal. All this asking questions of everybody is only making her look more obvious. The problem for Hayley is that she has failed to actually connect with Bill on anything other than going to bed or him buying her things. She acts like she is still the mistress and not the wife. It's fine that Vernon supports his wife, but he was making too many excuses for her and she was right to tell him to knock it off.
    • HAHAHHAHA!!! @kalbir being right on the money...right down to the music.

Nosy Nurse!!!   OMG!!! Not Nosy Nurse vs Silk Press Sheila!!!   And it's a Sara day!!!
    • Very true - AMC was a good ensemble show in the 90s (until Kendall/Zach/Greenlee/Ryan took over in the mid-2000/2010s). Glad you liked the 1994 tornado and 2006 Mardi Gras ball too

I'll have to go watch those Mardi Gras ball scenes this weekend. I think I actually have them on VHS somewhere in some boxes haha, but I don't have a VHS player anymore.
