It's not about what ABC counts but what Nielsen counts.

This actually touches on something I've always wondered about: how much of a show do you have to watch for it to count? If you watch the first ten minutes then change channels does Nielsen count you as a viewer? What about DVR? If you watch a couple of minutes of a DVR'd show then delete it, does that show get credit for your viewing?

Well OLTL's uptick on Friday SHOULD be a good sign for the following week. That kind of ratings increase is very rare for OLTL on a Friday. I am sick of this show's particularly volatile/schizoid ratings. The show can't hold a ratings increase to save its life (holiday or not- the show has no sustainability). I have enjoyed it for the last two months straight.. I hate to see The Talk beat it, but I suppose it was a matter of time.

I hope ABC takes heed over Wednesday's awful OLTL ratings as preempting nearly half the show on the east coast, and then NYC only showing it late night killed the ratings for that episode. Sometimes it is better to just cut your losses and move the episode to the next day instead of what they did. That destroyed their weekly average.

Though it's nothing to brag about in the big picture of bad ratings, after seeing an episodic 2,715,000 for AMC I thought to myself I haven't seen that many viewers for an episode of AMC in a long time - so I looked it up. Tuesday, January 4 was AMC's highest episode total since April. 4th most watched episode since their down-tick began after the first week of March 2010.

I don't think they care. Personally, I rather a late-night showing instead of a national pre-emption which throws Friday cliffhangers off for up to 6 weeks.

Speaking of not learning from ratings mistakes. ABCD put on a repeat episode mid-week a couple of months ago that sank the ratings for the entire line-up for the rest of the week yet they're going to repeat that error this coming week.

I don't recall the The Talk being pre-empted all the way through. OLTL was pre-empted all the way through because WABC decided to show Gov Cuomo coverage. It wasn't on all the channels here in NY.

No matter, I'm more interested in this week ratings without any interruptions.

    • Agree. The catfights at the clothing store alone...lol.   That's how I feel about Teresa as well. Cheryl I feel seems to blend much better with Sara's breakdowns, but I definitely love her dialogue no matter who she is with.
    • Episode #62 Thurs May 29 US, Dani arrived at the bar at closing time and used her Dupree name to request that the bartender serve her even though it was past closing time.  Then Doug walked in and Dani convinced the bartender to serve him too.  They were both drowning their sorrows, and the scene switched to Vanessa/Joey having sex on the card table. Then no followup.  Did Dani and Doug talk? Or... ? Where did Doug go? When the next episode started, it was the next day and Dani was meeting with Pamela, and Pamela arranged for some hot guy to date Dani, but Dani wasn't interested.
    • So I'm seeing cuz the catch-up has been brutal. All I can do (besides look at fashion) is smh.
    • Wow. What an episode. Deidre truly broke my heart today. Not much else to say. Just an incredible love story ending.    I’m amazed they couldn’t or didn’t try go get either Claire actress while both of her grandfathers are on death’s door. Hope sensing John had passed was a nice heartbreaking touch. The rest of the week is going to be so hard.
    • -- The fashions are at least something to talk about, because we're definitely not getting any story. I mean, this stuff is dreadful. -- I do like how they're dressing Nikki. Its hugely different from before, but I'll take it. -- At least she doesn't look like Ashley, who's dressed like a clinically-depressed Cruella DeVille. -- Nick without a jacket just looks odd. -- I see Mark Grossman again gained about 15 lbs. when he was away on vacation. The sharp cheekbones are gone and the double chin is back. Hate to be mean, but I hope he loses the weight. -- All that talk about all Claire did to plan that "party." Excuse me? There's nothing go on, and outside of some tacky Happy Birthday signage and tablecloths from Kohls, I don't know what they're talking about.

2025 year-to-date: 64 episodes monthly leaders: as of May 2025 (appearing episodes/total episodes, per month) directors + writers: pre-emptions: seven total pre-emptions + one National delay A very special thanks to @alexisfan07 for the double and triple checking of stats! A huge help that is much appreciated.
    • You're right, but that also sums up why the show is so unwatchable these days. Any character could go on a Postal-style rampage and it would generate a shrug.
    • I'd be surprised if it was. Money is money. And yeah, Kathy's done all those things but tbh given the current tally for ruinous character choices in EE in recent years I'm kind of numb to it and find hers small potatoes by comparison.
