Cassandra, portrayed by Nina Arvesen, is married to the wealthy George Rawlins. Despite their marriage, Cassandra engages in an affair with private investigator Paul Williams. George becomes aware of this infidelity and, driven by jealousy and a desire for revenge, orchestrates a plan to frame Paul for his own murder. I don't think the show had ANY control over the second time she left.  If I'm remembering right, she returned without a contract, making her a free agent to come and go as she pleased.  After she taped a few episodes, General Hospital offered her a control role, and she took it.  

 

Over the years several viewers have suspected that Dru would show up as Amy's sister. With Amy gone, Bill Bell created Olivia and the rest is history. This is one of the things I love about soaps. The show must always go on, one way or another.

VP feels like a completely different character. 

Victoria Rowell said Bell created Dru because many black women from the South wrote into the show, hoping to see themselves better reflected. They loved Mamie, but didn't feel she was necessarily reflective of who a lot of black women were.

Good to see The Newman Ranch returning. I hope they find a new decorative big blue plate to replace the old one.

The destruction of Gina's and the Newman Ranch were two of the stupidest moves in Y&R. I also hope to see the Chancellor Estate more. What goes through these producers heads? "Let's destroy a classic long-standing set for shock value and not rebuild it." ?

Sometimes such moves advanced plaque, I don't think the show benefited in this case.

I agree that Mamie wasn't reflective of a black female audience.  Though I liked her, Mamie gave house slave vibes. It's in her name. They gave her character more backbone when Veronica Redd took over.

It just occurred to me that she was 40 something years old playing a woman of John Abbott's age -- 60 something.

In 2003 Gina's set was 30 years old and in 2012 the original Newman Ranch set was 32 years old so maintenance costs were probably an issue.

Agreed, but somehow the Abbott set has been maintained. The Chancellor set was modified and then shrunk/replaced. Crimson Lights, Sharon's Cottage are 2 other decades old sets.

Remember that strange Chancellor room we saw for one episode in 2023,I think?
