I knew Chris stayed longer than Lorie, but I had no idea that Leslie was the last Brooks daughter to leave! I do think it’s a shame they recast Chris and tried to put her at Jabot but it didn’t work out. Would’ve been nice if they could’ve kept that Brooks bloodline going.

That was pretty much it for Weaver as Gina as I believe once her relationship with Neil Fenmore was over she just simply faded as more of a background player except for her very memorable emotional reunion with Rex on Christmas Eve 1987, the Clint Radison story and later in the '90s as a talk to character for Danny. Weaver was put on contract again by the early '00s as she appeared again in the opening credits 2003-2005ish but after that went on recurring again.

I don't know if it was Weaver's choice to go recurring or not, but it was weird given she had been a favorite on Bell's over Days playing Trish Clayton Banning for almost nine years before joining Y&R as Gina.

Yeah I always wondered if Bell was planning to keep Leslie on canvas, but maybe her story with Robert Laurence fizzeled and Bell cut her loose. She left town within a week or so of the Laurence family leaving, but was on canvas for 4 months after Laurie left town. Jill had been successfully intergrated into the Abbott family by this point so makes sense he kept her on.

I'm glad Weaver at least remained a strong presence as Gina, even if she was mainly a talk to for Danny and Rex, when she didn't have her own story....and they always did seem to "tease' Clint's return from jail over the years by having Gina being depressed about him, or reading a letter he had sent....which is jarring to how they re-wrote Clint's return in 2009 where he was bad all over again.

Amazing research @FrenchFan ! It all looks very on-point. The only one I wonder about is Joy Garrett going on contract in June '83. Reading the synopses, there's only a few mentions of her during the summer of '83, related to Nikki's porn tape story. Then IIRC nothing more until summer of '84, when Tyrone's story starts. I remember an ep that used to be on YT on Jazz talking to Boobsie about Tyrone, just as Tyrone is coming to town.

So I wonder if Joy was recurring summer of '83 and then on-contract summer of '84. Perhaps May, as you show Phil Morris joining in May.

I've noticed though that Bell didn't always stick to convention with such things. He often used those on recurring as almost contract players and vice versa. I believe Roberta Leighton was on recurring in 1986, but seemed to be right in the thick of it almost like a contract player as a result of the Nikki/Victor/Ashley triangle. Joy may have been on contract in 1983 and just not used.

I think this happened to Beth Maitland as well. She was brought back on contract at certain points, but was almost recurring in terms of her appearances and story.

Pretty sure he had run ins with Betty Corday (I think) over this same issue on Days in the 60's.

Maybe I am wrong, but that's what it seemed like anyway.

Thanks ! The only sure information I have is that Joy Garrett was in contract for victor and Nikki’s wedding. She might have been upgraded to contract during 1983 or in early 1984 maybe but Jon St Elwood we contract from the beginning. I assumed she was too but we would need more credits from this time ...

That's definitely true. On a Bill Bell show, contract vs. recurring does not always reflect a character's amount of story.  A great example is from 1991. BB kept Beau Kayzer on contract for months, even though Brock had no story. Meanwhile Marilyn Alex as Molly was always recurring, but Molly was essential to a front-burner storyline, and it would have been damaging if Marilyn opted to move on.

Occasionally I read about an actor who prefers not to go on contract, like Tracey Bregman and John Aniston, but it seems the vast majority opt for a contract.

Question: Do any of you by chance know if there's even the slightest possibility that there are episodes of Y&R from 1978 or 1979 (mainly '79) that people recorded on either VHS or Beta that still exist? At all? I just can't bring myself to believe that there aren't.

I would say there are. A lot of ABC & NBC soaps, game shows, and daytime commercials have popped up from those years, so there had to be someone taping Y&R. I would flip to see Nikki and Greg Foster's 1979 wedding in the Brooks house. I have seen bits of it and the reception party.
