Members yr9190
But these changes did work for the time being, as many people have said.
Members DeeeDee
Backstage issues with EVERYBODY Loving Kimberlin is one thing. Overusing her is another. They did. Her initial umbrella story just didn't include the entire canvas (not necessarily a bad thing). And Sheila's 2005 "return"? HORRIBLE. Exactly. And still she (like Lauren) was fairly upset after he died. It did. It also created a situation where a horrible writer (like LML) could ruin Y&R's existing paradigm without much effort.
Members DRW50
Besides the tension between Braeden and Bergman, what were the other backstage issues at Y&R in the early 90s? Do you think more should have been done to step on them?
Members yr9190
Backstage issues with EVERYBODY Jeez... I know this may be a dumb question but why does being the number 1 show drive all of this backstage rivalry and egotistical people.... I actually read that Bill almost fired Eric/Peter for their little fight happening.... Loving Kimberlin is one thing. Overusing her is another. On Y&R though?... if anything i would say that B&B 1992-1998 should have been called the Sheila show. They did. Her initial umbrella story just didn't include the entire canvas (not necessarily a bad thing). And Sheila's 2005 "return"? HORRIBLE. Well besides Scott/Lauren/Paul I know she knew Olivia because she worked with her and there is a clip on youtube where Olivia tells Sheila she is pregnant, then of course she knew Cricket and Danny because of Scott, and John Silva who btw apparently knew Sheila wayy before she came to GC. Then there was a time she met Brad when he came to confront her about the picture puzzle on B&B. Overall its understanable that Sheila was better used on B&B, because Y&R was such a big cast, and it would be impossible to have her interact with everyone there, while it was easier on B&B. Did Sheila ever meet Nina from your recollection Deedee? I always thought that Sheila and Nina becoming enemies would have been interesting.... Her 2005 return looked like it was okay, but there were soo many things that could have shaped it up better.... And still she (like Lauren) was fairly upset after he died Yeah, but i actually read the recap from November 1993 that talks about Scott's funeral and the only people that showed were Lauren, Cricket, Paul and Brad i think?.... Its hard to belive that Olivia would not be there since she seemed like she was a good aquaintence of his. also Nina was not there for Cricket?... It did. It also created a situation where a horrible writer (like LML) could ruin Y&R's existing paradigm without much effort and Maria "Hell" just keeps making it worse........
Members DeeeDee
WAY too many to mention. Suffice it to for all their respective respect for Bill Bell egos were plenty & jealousy was a constant issue. And the Tori Spelling of Daytime ate the show like nobody since Kelli Maroney. Definitely. Especially after Bill's health became an issue (cause nobody could write his show better than him) but even after Bill retired Kay & Ed were able to run a relatively tight ship. It wasn't until Jack Smith became HW & CBS began really exerting their influence that Y&R hit the point of no return.
Members DeeeDee
Y&R's always had huge egos. It just went from bad to worse once Brenda, Eileen, Terry & Thom left, Braeden was made Y&R's de facto centerpiece & Bergman arrived. Yep. Kimberlin was extremely popular so much so that she eclipsed Tracey who was doing some of the best work of her career. She definitely provided B&B with a shot in the arm too though. Plus Bill didn't do "clown car" umbrella stories (like now) where EVERYBODY had to be involved in umbrella stories. Nina was way too busy with her own issues (including her own psycho) to deal with Sheila too. Her 2005 "return" was a bad idea to begin with & a disaster from the word go. Yep. Members Dion
Not quite the same as an umbrella storyline with everybody involved but what did you think of that storyline where a bunch of characters (Cricket, Nina, Danny, Neil and I think Nathan and Paul) had to go rescue Dru from a porn studio?
Members yr9190
I have seen that storyline clip on youtube, and have a couple December 1991 recaps when that all took place. It really looks like better filter material than anything, and when i say better i mean stuff that wasn't necessary but kind of made sense compared to what would be bad filter on todays Y&R.
Members DeeeDee
That one was fine (campy but fine) cause everyone involved made sense.
Members DeeeDee
Not at all. It was just a character based story that made sense.

Members yr9190
Compared to todays "Character Based stories" it probably made A LOT of sense. but when exactly did Danny and Cricket/Nina get the chance to meet Neil/Dru? With all the David Kimble mess, its kind of hard to imagine them getting introduced to them so quickly after that to the point they had this little story together. It just hit me too that Nina technically new Neil before she met Ryan, and thats interesting considering that Ryan and Neil were starting their friendship unless they really weren't friends till way later. also another thing i'm wondering, when exactly did the tension between Nikki and Jill start? Like when did they start showing signs of disliking each other? The earliest i have seen is when that fire Broke out at Katherine's during the Jill claiming she had the right to live there storyline, and Jill and Nikki have to be prevented from attacking each other. I know most of the later stories have to do with Jill's jealousy cause of Nikki's closeness to Katherine, but when exactly did these two fighting start?... Did Brenda as Jill get to go at it with Nikki back in the day?
Members DeeeDee
David was dead by Halloween so it wasn't really a stretch. They were co workers that became best friends (especially when they both started having marriage problems). They weren't BFF's (except Cricket/Nina & later Neil/Ryan) but were all fairly friendly associates. Jill & Nikki have never liked each other. At best they tolerate each other. Not so much in front of the camera...
Members yr9190
Jill & Nikki have never liked each other. At best they tolerate each other. So was it bad at the time when Nikki married Greg, do you think that some of that bad blood between them originates to that? Not so much in front of the camera Oh boy can i only imagine what it was like with Brenda and Melody behind the camera... Considering all the bad blood with Bill and Ed that Brenda had... i'm sure claws were coming out. I actually have this feeling that out of all the Jills that were on while Melody has been there, the only one Melody was really ever nice to was Jess....
Members supes81
It is hard to say where it would originate. Though Nikki and Kay became close around 1981 or 1982 when the whole Kevin Bancroft thing was going down, I'd say it was more likely a result of their friendship, Kay never missed an opportunity to fill people in on her version of events from the past. Though Nikki was around during Jill's marriage to Stuart and I am sure Nikki heard plenty about it and was never a fan, though Nikki certainly wasn't innocent and was too busy covering her tracks from Greg over Addison's death and then joining a cult to worry much about Jill's life. I did find it odd they never had a scene, I don't even think they shared the screen when Liz got shot by one of the men Rose ordered to kill Greg, can someone remember.
