Thanks for sharing the 1983 closing credits Carl! Very rare, and you are right about the one logo looking like a beer logo! biggrin.png

I once heard someone suggest that a way of saving Y&R was to just let Lauralee Bell take over the show? Do you think that would work? I mean if they feel safer with Bells, they might as well try having her be in charge, and since B&B kind of did that with Flannery, maybe that might spark something....

You're probably right :(

Which is a shame because i feel like she actually has something that Maria lacks...Brains

I think Lauralee became done with Y&R sadly after her father died, Her returns recently have really done nothing, minus the fact that some fans are just happy to see her back on screen (which is the only reason why Maria has her come back)

Since starting her family Lauralee has been focused on her children primarily, but for the longest time I remember reading she was also looking to break into acting work outside of daytime and did some prime-time spots here and there. She turned the opportunity to return twice in 2008, first for the 35th Anniversary/Restless Style lauch/Danny singing and then for Katherine's funeral. She once said she would only return if the show had a lot more challenging material or did something different for Christine, although I don't think the Ronan stuff is exactly what she had in mind.

Although the Isabella story had a good, chilling climax, after all Christine went through 2001-2003 with the "was it rape?" followed by silly disguise and bad accent and then ending up in the arms of a deceptive Danny I don't blame her for looking down on the writing for Christine.

Regarding Heather Tom's exit in 2003 why didn't the show do more to save her given how easily she got picked up by another soap? How did Heinle get cast?

I didn't realize that Lauralee felt that way about Christine during the last few years she was on contract with the show. I think she could have returned for those events in 2008 it just felt so weird for Danny and Nina to both be there without her.

Speaking of Danny, why hasn't the show tried to get Michael Damian back on for a few guests spots after the hell Daniel was put through? I guess his music has something to do with it, but i feel like its long overdue for him to return, I can only picture him doing guest spots on the show, since i feel like characters like Danny only could mesh well with the Y&R of a different time (his being the 80's/90's)

It seemed to me like Lauralee was phasing herself out of the show in those periods. They were very long leaves.

I can't remember but for some reason I thought they asked Michael back once a few years ago (after the stuff with him singing in 2008) and he declined.

I think after Lauralee left the first time in 2001 was the beginning of her phasing out. I notice that throughout 2001-2006 She was wasn't even on the show for all 12 months and if she was, she was recurring. Then she had that guest spot on B&B for like two episodes right?

As much as i would like Danny to come back, i have a feeling Damian is done with the show too. Its a shame because Daniel has been in the worst shape only having Giggly as a "role model"

I came in with a dream and left with a purpose. From lecture halls to rehearsals, community work to creative sets, every moment shaped me. I’m so proud of the stories I’ve told here — and the ones still unfolding. Grateful to everyone who poured into me, supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Fours up and peace out! #UCLA #ClassOf2025 #BlackBruinExcellence #YearbookVideo @jordanward
    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!

    • Thanks. I do wonder if Rose was meant to be more given the caliber of actress they hired. I remembered Sara and Peggy staying longer as they were still on when Soapnet started their repeats. I wonder if that was part of the reason they brought Jake's brother in.
    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
