Y&R Discussion for the week of October 18

Why does everyone hate Gloria and Judith Chapman. I think she is a great actress.

She has some over the top acting tics (plus that gulping BUG EYES) which are only outperformed by THE STAFFORD © and Mr. Shiny Teeth.

But the hate mostly comes from the writing: Glo was on EVERY fricking day from 2006 till headmistress LML was carted off to hell. She has never really paid for her crimes and is just obnoxious. End of story.

I tend to like her on a lowkey basis but so far every writer has failed to make sth. out of the character - since Joan Van Ark left - or at least Chapman's version isn't working.

JC is a great actress, but Gloria, Kevin, Michael, Jeffrey and Jana do not belong on Y&R and have more than overstayed their welcome.

Michael & Lauren are fine.

The rest of them can go.

I don't think it helps that basically John was killed to push Glo on the Abbotts either.

Ash has no idea about the Beauty-o--nature Abbey sceme. Poor Ashley, she is totally out of the loop and will probably go insane again soon.

Thanks.

For a smart woman, Ashley has been portrayed as a clueless dumb blonde almost from the minute she came to town.

I don't mind Michael in a supporting capacity the rest (minus Jeff) had moments that I enjoyed but now it should be good riddance

Judith Chapman is agreat actress, MAB just has no idea what to do with Gloria.

Btw, does anyone know the dirt on why Joan van Ark left this role? I was watching at the time, but I wasn't a member of the boards at the time so I missed that. Did she leave or was she fired?

I liked her, but I love Judith Chapman as well.

She left. She thought it was too much work.

Oh what a boring story! Haha, I was hoping there would be some juicy backstage drama that made her quit.

Speaking of Judith Chapman though...IF Maria ever lets her go, I would love to see her back on GH as Ginny..

Where would Ginny fit in 2010's GH?

I can see her in "comic" stories with Luke, although I'd rather see Jane Elliot stay around.

GH has Tracy and Y&R has Jill. None of these shows needs Judith or the type of characters she plays.

True, but then most soaps aren't about what they need. Obviously Judith is very good at getting people to want to keep her around. I guess she must have great social skills.

I know I have said it a number of times, but I really hate the way Judith's Gloria took over so many storylines which belonged to Jill.

She also wasn't too happy about Y&R totally changing the character.

Obviously Judith is very good at getting people to want to keep her around.

Judith is a good actress that plays a very specific type of character (like Robin Strasser) & isn't very versatile.
