I think that Mary was a friend of Penny's. She, Ellen, and Penny were about the same age, or maybe Mary was a bit younger.

I also suspect that Mary was an attraction for Bob or possibly for Donald.

I've always thought of her as a very attractive woman - even more so when you consider that she has given birth to five children!! Many happy returns to Maura West on her special day. smile.png

Great photo! All look good and Patricia Bruder has been aging very nicely. I think ATWT has the collective of Seniors with the greatest vitality from the world of daytime drama. And they can move their faces :)

Damn, Bruder looks great! I agree, the vets kept the discarded underwear model/actors from other shows in the basement and siphoned off their vitality or something. I thought Ellen was a bore but I can't believe they didnt bring her back for Nancy's funeral or the end.

Ellen was interesting when put in the right stories. Her meddling in Susan's and Emily's life was fun to watch.

And I loved how consistent the show used to be in regards to Ellen and Lisa's sparring. Man, they kept sniping at each other for what...like decades??

They should have had her come back for the end when Allison was getting engaged or married. Huge waste of a return. Goutman just sucked.

Ellen was written out in April of 1975 but brough back in January of 1976 when the show went to an hour. Under the hourlong format, the show reintroduced a lot of veteran characters like Don, Sandy and the Stewart daughters, who were aged

That was like writing Nancy and Chris off under the Dobsons' What was the shows excuse for the entire family leaving? What was the audience reaction?

It was Marland who brought back the Lisa/Ellen sniping. You can see during previous eras no sniping with Lisa and Ellen. I loved it and it was typical Marland, not a big deal, but they just annoyed each other so much!
