It was a good time for the show. It ranked #4 that week. A few weeks later, Tonio shoots Bob in his apartment.

I wish he'd been asked more about this over the years - I would have loved hearing his thoughts on the earlier times. (I'd be surprised if he was still watching long past 1994)

F**k Bill Moyers.

Do tell @Khan 👀

What a weird title for an article though.

Irna Phillips was something of a b*tch, we know but she wasn't wrong about the effects of these production companies like P&G trivializing the genre and what lasting effects it would have. I blame P&G for not recognizing what they had culturally and artistically, beyond being a cash cow. Daytime soaps could have been prestige television but production companies and networks didn't think the minds of "housewives" could process more. In the midst of great writing and great performances, these execs always had to force cheap stunts and cheap tricks. And they're even worse today.

I just don't have time for anyone who denigrates the genre. I know soaps ain't what they used to be, but I still regard them as a uniquely American institution that, if done right, could go a long way toward educating the public about a great many things.

Besides, Shakespeare wasn't considered high-brow in his day either, lol.
