And before someone points out they could've recast if Loring was persona non grata----there's also the possibility that CBS didn't want two characters named "Cricket" on at the same time. By '85 or so, "Cricket Blair" was becoming a major character over on Y&R.

From what I can tell, Cricket was gone by '83. Marland comes on in '85 and refocuses the show back to core families like the Hughes and Stewarts...while adding the Snyders, granted....I'm not sure why he's catching heat for not bringing back a minor character he didn't write for and was gone long before he got there. Vixens/troublemakers like Karen and Diana---at least I get why and how they could've furthered story.

I kind of liked the quirky energy of early 80s atwt...but I guess it wasn't as popular hence the hiring of Marland in the mid 80s...talented but bland.

I'm kind of glad he didnt get his hands on fun female characters like Diana, Karen or Ariel...he would have snapped them of their spirit and made them as morose as Shannon ended up becoming by the late 80s.

Cricket was an nonentity during most of her time on the show. She started out as an Erica wannabe who was competing with boring SD's Betsy for boring Eric and once that ended...I think Bunim kept her on just because she was young and pretty.  Considering that and Loring's less then dynamic acting and her background...(wasnt her husband in bi porn too, which would have been CRAZY for CBS at that time...) it is no mystery why Cricket never appeared again.

Hogan was the Ron before Ron Carlivati LOL. Just randomly pulling out a son for Cricket who hadn't, if at all, been mentioned or referred to prior. I liked Hogan (he still had his many many flaws) before he was saddled with Jean.

He was in straight porn, I think, although he was known for [!@#$%^&*] a turkey in one scene (a Butterball turkey - not a live turkey). He also wrote a tell-all that scandalized the industry, and he and Loring appeared on talk shows multiple times talking about his porn career. And they met on the set of a Traci Lords movie, which pretty much says it all about why P&G would have been no, no, no, no, no.

When she was on atwt..she was married to a soap actor...the porn star hubby came about in the late 80s when she was a make up artist for that traci lord movie.

In interviews, she seemed spirited and fun..yet that didnt come through on Atwt.

Hogan's first year or so - I get it it, it was something different and the show had more energy than it had for a while. It wasn't classic ATWT though. I think the wheels quickly fell off after that first year (before Jean came along) and it was just one big muddled mess held together by some decent actors and scriptwriters. Hogan's always been offensive and lazy trash, in the Bob Guza mold.

    • I don't expect Lois to be the same person she was 25 years ago, but she's definitely lost a lot of what made Lois unique.  It's clear the show doesn't know how to write for her, and the sole purpose of Lois is to hide this Gio secret.  It's a shame she doesn't interact with more of the canvas.  It's a waste of Rena's talents. I like Brook Kerr most of the time.  She can be hit or miss.  I totally get what you are saying about her line readings too.  I honestly think the character really suffers being stuck in the Curtis pairing.  She's much better than Tanisha Harper's Jordan lol.
    • Friday and yesterday's episode is what daytime television should be. The other shows airing could take a page from yesterday's show.  I loved the rage, hurt and anger Nicole unleashed on Ted.  Daphnee should be up for an Emmy nom for these scenes.  It broke my heart to see how Dana had locked Eva out.  I do feel sorry for Eva.    I am still bumfuzzled as to why Leslie/Dana went to the DuPree's and asked them to accept Kat UNLESS Eva is really Kat's twin (and really Nicole and Ted's daughter that maybe they though they lost or an embryo Dana/Leslie stole??) I loved how Anita and Vernon both shot her down.    Ohhh and let me just say Friday and yesterday was the MOST fire I have seen Martin have since the show started.  Maybe Brandon Clayborn is coming into his own with the role finally.
    • You've been seeing him all along. You just didn't know it was him, I guess.

    • Where to for Dana? She's pissed off the Duprees (most of the cast), alienated her daughter and will she be welcomed by the Have Nots at the diner? Maybe she can befriend Ashley and Derek and liven up their story.
    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
    • So far the only interest I've seen from Evan to Amanda has been listening to Iris's orders to go and seduce her.  So far he hasn't been successful... but who knows. Amanda is unbearable at times. Entitled, spoiled... idiotic. Iris... so blatantly manipulating her and Amanda takes the bait. But I guess... when she gets in trouble... she'll have a chance to learn. That's what makes these shows so interesting.    Oh, no, don't worry. You haven't ruined a thing. Evan has not been on my radar that much... he was not one of the characters I was caring particularly... so nothing much has been changed for me. I don't think he has the stuff to ruin Rachel's life. He's just a pretty guy that can follow orders. Iris on the other hand... is dangerous.

P.S Maybe Evan will surprise me. Who knows.
    • The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.
    • So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.
